Recently, I was privileged enough to be invited to a rather posh reception with a dear friend who was visiting from England & I'm excited to share photographs of the outfit I styled for the occasion with you. I wore an ornate, heavy floral printed jacquard fit-to-flare dress with dipped v-neckline & high/low hem with sheer black lace trim from Anthea Crawford mixed with a black leather & suede long-sleeved waterfall jacket from Zara, black patent pointy-toed booties with chunky stacked heels from my perennial favourite Wittner, matte nylon tights from Razzamatazz to ward off the winter chill in the air & an edgy chrome mesh envelope clutch with black resin clasp from Taking Shape... just large enough to carry a few essentials, including the pinky/red lipstick (called "Passion Play" of all things!) I love so much from Revlon! To complete the look & keep it youthful, I wore a matching pair of oversized silver circular cocktail rings (made in India) that I found in my local Oxfam store.

Scroll down for a closer look... this time without the jacket...

Finally posting all the pictures of the jaunty nautical look I donned for a day exploring Brisbane's waterways with one of my dearest friends from England. The state of Queensland is famous (or infamous, depending on who you ask...) for its mild winter temperatures & this worked in my favour, allowing me to wear this stunning French navy coated cotton midi dress with three dimensional silver beaded embellishment from Jayson Brunsdon Black Label, exclusive to Myer & a navy & white knitted wool hooded capelet from Genison Style with BARE LEGS! Crazy, right?! All the better to wear these stylish & comfortable shiny silver leather brogues from Country Road with matching laser-cut leather tote bag from Australian bohemian brand Sashenka for all the essentials.

When it came to jewellery, I decided to "layer up" a bit: chunky Tibetan silver bracelet on one arm; silver & navy watch with striped band by Daniel Wellington (purchased from my local Pascoe Jewellers) & 1960s vintage fork-turned-bracelet from Lancaster's Antiques in Toowoomba on the other...

Gathering of the Clans

*

Dress: Anthea Crawford velour & jacquard
Poncho: Tree of Life wool (made in Nepal)
Ankle Boots: Witchery leather with studs
Bag: Forever New vinyl with gold hardware
Hat: Before Sunset woven

As someone who cherishes my Scottish heritage, it's safe to say I was excited to attend the Gathering of the Clans in Limestone Park recently. There's nothing I love more than hearing the sound of the bagpipes... particularly if they're playing my all-time favourite tune, "The Bear." As the event was held in the park, comfort was key: a fit-to-flare dress from Anthea Crawford with plush black velour bodice & green baroque printed jacquard skirt (with tulle underlay) & grosgrain ribbon belt, colourful woven wool poncho with fringing detail from Tree of Life to ward off the chill of the encroaching rainclouds, soft black leather pull-on ankle boots with stud detail from Witchery, burgundy vinyl cross-body bag with gold hardware from Forever New & finally, a woven sunhat from Before Sunset to protect my skin from the great outdoors.

And one of my companions...
