Pictures from my second entry into the #KatiesStyle competition, where participants are asked to style up an outfit using at least one piece from the current spring/summer range & post the results on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

This time, I decided to make a funky style statement by mixing a studded scarf with a monochromatic ensemble consisting of a chiffon & mixed lace dress & mesh draped cardigan.

The studs on the scarf are enhanced by the eclectic studded bangles on each arm (shown in detail below) & in conjunction with the patent platform heels & bag, add shine to what is otherwise a darker, more "rock chick" look. After all, when we say that the outfit is all chiffon & lace, it conjures up images of staid, high-society matrons in the Victorian era - & as you can see, this is anything but.

Many people think of Katies as a store for the more "mature" woman but it is clearly evident from these recent offerings - statement necklaces & funky scarves - that there is much more to this fashion stalwart for spring/summer 2014. As I always say, preconceptions are often misconceptions, so it is always worth paying a visit... You may be surprised...

Here are the pictures from my first entry into the #KatiesStyle competition. Participants are required to style up an outfit that contains at least one piece from Katies new spring/summer collection & share it on either Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

I decided on this statement horn & ribbon necklace, mixing it with florals for an unexpected twist. The navy & cream tones of the printed dress & soft jacket are enhanced by the colours naturally inherent in the pieces of horn, creating an effect that is funky yet pleasing to the eye, whilst the black ribbon neck tie (versatile as it means that necklace can be made any length to suit a range of necklines) draws attention to the focal point of the outfit.

All that was then required to finish off the look was a pair of flesh tone platforms & matching neutral handbag & an armful of chunky metal bangles, pictured in more detail below:
