Made the journey to my best friend's place on a very rainy Wednesday in the River City to eat, drink & watch the Queensland Maroons taken on the New South Wales Blues in the second State of Origin clash. I'm not really one for sport in general - not least what Australians refer to as "football" - but it is difficult not to get caught up in the "Origin Fever" that grips the state 3 times a year... particularly in a room full of dedicated fans, one of whom is an excited 6 year old boy in a Maroons beanie & matching hoodie... & especially when it is patently obvious even to a non-believer like me that were some exceptionally "dodgy" calls by the referee that led to the Queensland team's defeat & locked the series into a "decider" of a 3rd game...
But I digress.
Fashion blogger, stop whining about perceived bias & present thy fashion commentary.
Obviously, it's the Might Queensland MAROONS but I don't actually HAVE a whole lot of maroon clothing (preferring brighter hues) so red was chosen as the closest to it... & hey, at least it wasn't blue, right? The red crepe Anthea Crawford shift with asymmetrical neckline drapery & waist dart detail was an ideal base for my smart-casual look - & warm to boot!
I then added another layer in the form of a black "puffer" jacket by Emerson @ Big W to make sure that I stayed toasty into the late evening. "Puffer" jackets have a rather "bad rap" as far as fashion is concerned, not least because it was worn by one of the MOST revolting sitcom characters ever created, George Costanza from Seinfeld. I mean, killing your fiance (literally!) with your misery cheap-skater-ness? Ew. This jacket, however, is nothing like that one; the "puff" of the down is moderated somewhat for maximum warmth with a sleeker silhouette. A further layer was then added - a black & red faux fur sleeveless vest from Grab @ Myer - to pull the whole look together & add some texture.
Check out both below:
Black lace-up, heeled booties by Corelli @ Williams were chosen to anchor the look & provide style & warmth, as well as a pair of 40 denier Razzamatazz tights & a boxy, patent handbag from Novo. Finishing the look was a chunky silver & resin cocktail ring in a vibrant shade of crimson, bought from my local Equip store sale for the princely sum of $3.
Now that all that fashion stuff is out of the way, scroll down to see how the afternoon & evening unfolded...
Jeremy hoping that "The Force" was with the Mighty Maroons...
Sadly, it was not.
Delicious home-made beef pot pie. One word: YUM.
