Avid readers of this blog will already know how much I adore embroidered mesh dresses & this absolute stunner from Australian designer label Sacha Drake - the "Miss Saigon" dress - worn to a recent event in my beloved River City is utter perfection! I'm loving the new season's 1920s/1930s inspired bias cut silhouettes for that "tall drink of water" look inspired by Myrna Loy as Nora Charles in "The Thin Man" film series & the thick jersey lining covered by delicate floral embroidery makes this extra special - particuarly when styled up with a pair of black matte leather pointed booties from Wittner for height & a black silk & gold vintage handbag (purportedly 1960s) that a dear friend sent me from Paris. When it came to jewellery, I added some special pieces in the form of a chunky black resin hinged bangle with gold & onyx inlay from Samantha Wills that I actually got as a "gift with purchase" of a subscription to InStyle Magazine almost 20 years ago, a matching gold & onyx teardrop cocktail ring (also Samantha Wills) that I found years & years later at a nameless little boutique while out with friends & finally, a sweet little gold Noah's Ark bracelet from Koorong Bookstore to complete the look.

Something that I love to do as a stylist is to "winterise" my pre-existing spring/summer wardrobe, which makes so much sense living in South East Queensland as our cold weather periods can be intense but very, very short-lived. Case in point: this utterly divine pink embroidered floral organza puff-sleeve midi smock dress with self-tie belt & soft cotton lining from Australian designer label Aje from a previous summer collection that I styled up for a recent event in my beloved River City. For the occasion - a matinee ballet performance with some dear friends - I added a chunky black knitted snood that I purchased years ago from the delightful Windswept & Interesting Boutique at Mt Tamborine, a pair of shiny black patent pointy-toed booties from Wittner for height & to tie the tones together, a vintage black & pink floral beaded handbag from the early 1990s that I discovered at an online Etsy store. When it came to jewellery, I kept the pieces minimal but meaningful - a stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles that were given to me by some friends who now reside overseas on one wrist & a thicker, vintage silver bangle that my brother bought me from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles on the other.

I'm so elated to finally be sharing all the beautiful moments from a morning attending a bit of hush-hush function at Southbank's Cultural Precinct with a dear friend. Luckily for me, I had time both before & after the event to have a little browse around both the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) & the Queensland Art Gallery... powered by piping hot coffee, of course...

For the occasion, I wore a gorgeous, etheral off-white/ivory embellished jacquard three-quarter-sleeve mini dress with soft satin lining, elasticated waistline, fluted hem & self-tie rope belt from high-street label Sheike with a flesh-tone jersey camisole underneath from Witchery for modesty purposes, styled up with a pair of natural-tone leather & elastic gladiator-style stiletto heels from Wittner for a modicum of height (virtually a necessity at only five feet tall), a natural woven bucket bag with diamantes from the delightful Oh Jo Jo Boutique at the "top of town" in Ipswich that I loved on sight but was incredulous that I would actually get any wear out of - spoiler alert: I have worn it at least once a week since purchase & it goes with PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING in some kind of magical way - & some matching jewellery from Disney Couture in the form of a brass & silver "Winnie the Pooh" cuff & silver cocktail ring to complete the look.
