Those who know me well in real life or are long-time readers of this blog will already be aware that as well as fashion & antiquing, I absolutely adore archaeology, paleontology & anthropology, so was obviously elated to be invited to an event celebrating all things Cleopatra, Ptolemaic Queen of Egypt from 51-30 BC, shrewd political operator & famed lover of Mark Antony... with one of the most bizarre (alleged) suicides - by asp! of all things - in the ancient world. For the occasion, I decided to dress with an Ancient Egyptian sensibility in mind (clearly tweaked for modern sentiments, of course) with a stunning floral embroidered mesh shift dress in metallic gold & light green with darker green satin slip beneath, embroidered straps (added by me) & a tie belt from Australian designer Sacha Drake, metallic gold vegan leather slingbacks from Gorman for a touch of daytime shine, a green woven paper shoulder bag from Sussan to carry all the essentials & a single silver & gold scarab hinged bangle from the Metropolitan Museum of Art gift shop in the 1990s that a dear friend brought back & decided to pass on to me.

I'm so elated to be posting some snippets from a recent family birthday celebration dinner at the always amazing Creole Soul Kitchen  in Spring Hill. For the occasion, I wore the funky "Aura Dress" from Dangerfield - a sweet little mini dress with tiered hemline & tie straps, made from crisp organza & covered in neon-lit pictures of nocturnal animals - styled up with a pair of black vegan leather strappy heels with buttons from Kitten D'Amour for a modicum of height, a cylindrical black vinyl handbag from Beach n Beyond boutique at Coolangatta to carry all the essentials, my beloved stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles that some friends brought back from a trip & finally, a single jade bangle from the Shanghai Markets that my brother brought back from a trip years ago to complete the look & pick up on the green inherent in the dress' print.

Finally sharing all the gorgeous pictures from a morning spent in & around the boutiques at La Trobe & Given Terraces in Paddington before picking up some delicious takeaway from The Java Lounge cafe & heading home. For the occasion, I wore this funky black & white polka dot print ramie tiered midi dress with sweetheart neckline & tie straps from City Chic (worn as a 90s style pinafore) with a white ribbed jersey racer-back single from Dannii Minogue Petites via my local Target store underneath, a pair of bright lipstick red vegan leather pointy-toed wedge heels with white stitching from Kitten D'Amour for a modicum of height & pop of colour as well as a matching upcycled quilted polyester crossbody bag from Cotton On to carry all the essentials while keeping my hands free for browsing. When it came to jewellery, I chose some of my favourite pieces from the delightful ladies at Precious Stones Jewellers in Uptown (formerly Myer Centre) in the form of a wave-style art deco hinged bangle & tribal Najo cuff for that touch of daytime shine.
