Thinking back to (marginally) cooler days in South East Queensland as we make it through this thoroughly unpleasant late-January heatwave & absolutely loving this sweet blue & white gingham midi dress with lace trim & shirred back detailing that I picked up from the delightful Oh Jo Jo Boutique at the "top of town" in Ipswich, styled up for a casual lunch with the ladies with a pair of white & silver metallic leather Sundowner sandals from Obsession Shoes for a modicum of height & a funky white painted cane handbag from Aussie label Renee Loves Frances to carry all the essentials while adding an easy breezy coastal bohemian vibe...

Green & White Gingham

Dress: Faithfull the Brand cotton
Gladiator Sandals: Wittner leather, elastic
Bangle: Gift, Mrs Polly's Lucite resin, diamante

There's nothing fresher than a gingham dress, particularly if it's green & white gingham like this gorgeous little number from cult-status fashion label Faithfull the Brand, worn on a day when Queensland wasn't experiencing an unexpected & prolonged "polar blast" that has dramatically dropped temperatures. I've styled it up for the warmer weather with a pair of white leather & elastic gladiator sandals from Wittner & a green resin snake bangle with red diamante eyes from Mrs Polly's Lucite, gifted to me by some dear friends.

All dressed up & ready to head to Southbank Parklands to meet up with a new friend that I connected with (initially) through Etsy & Instagram over a love of culture, beautiful things & furry friends. So many unpleasant things are said about "social media" sites & a lot of them are true (you do get some serious weirdos writing crazy things in your Direct Messages) but when it's the reverse & you can make new friends & foster new relationships with people you may otherwise have never met, it's wonderful. For the occasion, I'm wearing a gorgeous green & white gingham cotton midi dress from whimsical British label Sister Jane via Hummingbird with shirred bodice, ruffled straps & a tiered hemline with black velvet bow detailing make it the perfect trans-seasonal piece. I've styled it up with a pair of monochrome vegan leather Mary Jane heels from vintage-inspired design studio Kitten D'Amour, a black woven straw handbag from my local Targets store to carry all the essentials, a chunky green resin bangle in the shape of a coiled snake with red diamante eyes from Mrs Polly Lucite (gifted to me by some dear friends), a brushed silver cuff from Wallace Bishop & a silver & malachite rectangular ring from Rock Shop Fine Gems & Jewellery on Adelaide Street to complete the look.

Gingham - or "checks" as some people call it - has got to be one of my all-time favourite prints/patterns & not even years of wearing a truly horrendous high school uniform dress that we often referred to as a "tablecloth" could change my mind. This new season dress from City Chic is honestly one of my this summer's most underrated & excuse the pun but it "checks" all the boxes: classic monochrome colour palette, soft cotton fabric that's cool in the heat & humidity, shirred bodice for shaping, adjustable shoestring straps for comfort that are wide enough to fit a bra strap beneath & a tiered hemline with enough fabric to cut off & create a funky, long wrap with... if you happen to be only five feet tall, like me... (thanks, Mum!) Seriously handy in the air-conditioning, I've found. Anyway, I've styled it up for day out with a pair of black vegan leather Mary Jane heels with white bib detailing from French inspired label Kitten D'Amour, a boxy black vinyl handbag with white piping & bow & silver hardware from Review & a chunky silver hinged bangle from Wallace Bishop for that touch of daytime shine.
