Scenic Rim Saturday

Taking the opportunity to get "out & about" while it wasn't raining, my brother & I took a short drive to the Scenic Rim on a Saturday morning to check out the antiques & boutiques, eat a hearty all-day breakfast at one of the local cafes & feed the camels & enjoy a coffee amongst the rolling hills, distant mountains & cool, crisp fresh air. Scroll down to see where we went, what we did, what we ate & most importantly for this fashion blog, what I wore...

The Emporium
101 George Street, Kalbar QLD 4309

An off-shoot of Empire Revival (formerly Paddington Antiques) & located in the historic Wiss Emporium, built in 1890, it is a store full of absolutely beautiful antique furniture, books & bric-a-brac as well as a plethora of funky, handmade fashion items & what's more, the studio out the back is even home to Terina Smith, a recycling artist who creates amazing pieces of wearable art from items that were once destined to become landfill. As antique stores go, it wasn't overfilled (just full enough to be pleasant to rummage around in), was scrupulously clean & remarkably dust-free, prices were reasonable & the staff friendly & willing to help out with measuring tape as well as tips about cleaning & restoration of precious mementos from the past.

For the occasion, I donned a stunning black cotton tiered midi dress with stretchy, knitted bodice & long, oversized tie straps from Aussie designer Aje, a boho-luxe red, white & black paisley print lurex puff-sleeve bolero with cropped hemline & elasticated tie waist from Talisman via Hummingbird the Shop, a pair of comfortable yet stylish black leather & elastic sandals from Wittner, a black vinyl crossbody bag from Urban Originals via my local TK Maxx store to carry all the essentials while keeping my hands free to browse & some of my favourite silver jewellery pieces - a chunky, wave-shaped, art-deco-inspired hinged bangle from the lovely ladies at Precious Stones Jewellers & a stack of vintage bangles (possibly from Mexico) thoughtfully gifted by some dear & loving friends - to complete the look.

Finding out some local history at the Visitor Centre...

Lovett at Kalbar
79 Edwards Street, Kalbar QLD 4309

A beautiful spot to share all-day breakfast or lunch with family & friends, Lovett offers a range of fresh, tasty options to tempt the taste buds. While the homemade pies seemed incredibly popular amongst our fellow diners, I opted for the Mushroom & Crispy Potato Salad with Poached Eggs & my brother opted for the Savory Mince on Toast with Rocket & a Poached Egg. Both were utterly delicious, as was the ice-cold Vanilla Frappe (not pictured) that I ordered to wash it all down. Lovely atmosphere & great customer service; we'll definitely be back!

Couldn't resist stopping to snap a few pictures next to this Pikachu mural that I found hanging outside the local chemist... Surprised Pikachu Face, anyone?!

Summer Land Camels
8 Charles Chauvel Drive, Harrisville QLD 4307

Australia's largest wild camel training centre & dairy operation, Summer Land Camels gives visitors the chance to meet these gentle creatures, feed them hay for the nominal fee of $2/bag, learn all about camel milk & cheese as well as a range of skin products, enjoy a coffee or gelato on the verandah while overlooking the grounds & even go for a ride if you're feeling adventurous! I had an absolute blast feeding them, taking some happy snaps, relaxing with a chai latte afterwards & even purchased some camel souvenirs to take home!

Leisurely coffee & conversation in our final stop of the day...
