Mini Dress, Maximum Appeal

*

Bag: Sacha Drake mesh
Brooch: Southside Antiques silver, diamante
Bangle Stack: Gift, vintage Mexican silver
Bangle: Gift, 2oth Century Antiques & Collectibles vintage silver

Avid readers of this blog will already know that not only do I absolutely adore mini-length dresses, I also love fabrics that would probably be more at home as living room decor such as jacquard, tapestry, guipure lace, embroidered mesh & tulle, so this sweet blue & white floral jacuqard mini dress with rosette details from Asos Luxe is ticking all the boxes! I've styled it up for an event in my beloved River City with a pair of silver metallic leather strappy heels from Jo Mercer for a modicum of height, a funky silver mesh pouch bag from Sacha Drake to carry (some) of the essentials & some gorgeous silver jewellery pieces - a large flower brooch with diamantes from the 1940s from Southside Antiques for a touch of daytime sparkle, a stack of vintage Mexican bangles that some dear friends brought back from overseas & a single, heavier bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles that my younger brother gave me to complete the look.

White with a Blush

Dress: Asos Edition cotton broderie, cotton voile
Sandals: Wittner leather, elastic
Bag: Obsession Shoes woven paper, fringing

As much as I love bright colours & crazy prints, sometimes it's wonderful to embrace a softer palette in colours like blush, white & beige. Case in point: this stunning ensemble, starting with a blush & white floral cotton broderie maxi dress from Asos Edition, beige leather & elastic gladiator sandals with stiletto heels from Wittner for a modicum of height & a natural woven paper crossbody bag with fringing from Obsession Shoes to carry all the essentials.

Wednesday Vibes

*

Dress: Asos Edition polyblend, guipure lace
Booties: Wittner matte leather
Bag: Witchery woven straw, leather
Sunglasses: Empire Revival resin

*

I maaaaaaay have been watching re-runs of "Wednesday" on Netflix before putting together this ensemble for a rather balmy winter day in South East Queensland... I've gone with the monochrome route & styled up a black & white checked polyblend smock dress with three-quarter-length sleeves, v-neckline, black asymmetrical detailing, back cut out with guipure lace (added by me) & a high/low hemline from online emporium Asos' premium diffusion line, Asos Edition by adding a pair of black matte leather pointy-toed booties from Wittner for a modicum of height, a natural woven straw handbag with black leather handle from Witchery to carry the essentials & a funky pair of black resin sunglasses from a stallholder at Empire Revival antique store in Paddington to complete the look. If you're a Burton fan, these miiiiight look a bit familiar to you, as they certainly gave me vibes from that scene where Uncle Fester & Wednesday are escaping in that hilarious mobile-dog-wash contraption... if you know, you know...

Neoprene

*

Dress: Asos Design neoprene
Loafers: Pitillos via Obsession Shoes patent leather, matte leather
Bag: Resident Store vintage resin, embroidery
Bangles: Gift, gold beads, silver beads

*

It's no secret that when it comes to dresses, I've probably worn almost every style in almost every possible type of print or pattern or colour or fabric. I just love to experiment with fashion & new ways to express myself through clothing & this neoprene midi dress with shirred bodice, ruffled neckline & thick tie straps from Asos Design is a real case in point. When it arrived, it honestly looked a bit different to the picture, probably owing to the fact that it was extremely wrinkled after being squashed up in plastic packing bag & I did have a momentary feeling of "what have I done?" but after much careful steaming & a few tries at getting the bows exactly where I wanted them, I was pleasantly surprised by how sculptural the dress is & what a statement it can make with just a few accessories. I've styled it up here for a matinee with a friend by adding a pair of black patent & matte leather heeled loafers with tassles by Pitillos that I discovered at Obsession Shoes at the "top of town" in Ipswich for height & texture/shine next to the matte fabric of the dress, a vintage black & pink rose cross stitch/embroidered bag with gold resin clasp & chain strap from the delightful Resident Store at Mooloolaba (now online only) to carry all the essentials while adding some print/colour/floral/interest & finally, a few silver, gold & pink beaded sparkly bangles from India that a dear friend brought back from a trip a few years ago for that touch of daytime shine to add depth.
