Another day, another amazing denim outfit for the cooler temperatures! This time, I've veered away from the "preppy" vibes & into the more casual ones with this stunning 70s-inspired indigo stretch denim midi dress with high collar & gold zipper from Portmans, styled up with a pair of black matte & patent leather loafers from Pitillos via Obsession Shoes replete with funky tassel details, a monochrome striped woven hardcase handbag-turned-crossbody-bag with wooden clasp from a boho boutique called Embers & Twine & finally, the same navy & black enamel "fashion bangle" with gold edges from Megan Hess that I was given as a gift a few years ago to complete the look.

If you're an avid reader of the blog or regularly check my Instagram feed, you'll probably already know that I am basically OBSESSED with denim this season! Honestly, I just can't get enough of denim dresses in all kinds of silhouettes, lengths & washes & this amazing dark indigo, rigid denim, mini-length pinafore with belt from Portmans is the perfect "preppy" style hero, particularly when worn with a white chiffon blouse with black piping buttoned right up to the top & secured with a gold brooch! I've leaned even further into the look with a pair of black matte leather heeled booties from celebrated Aussie label Wittner for a modicum of height, a black vinyl shoulder bag from Sportsgirl to carry all the essentials & added a single thin gold bangle from Lovisa & a chunky black & navy enamel & gold "fashion illlustration" bangle from Megan Hess to complete the look.

Doll Expo in Denim

*

Dress: Portmans denim
Sandals: Florsheim leather, wood
Bag: Oh Jo Jo Boutique woven straw, diamantes
Bangles: Gift, silver & gold beads

*

If you're an avid reader of this blog or you know me in real life, you'll probably already know that I'm an avid collector of certain bits & bobs including vintage dolls, teddies & toys so the Ipswich Gala Doll Show, held in the Civic Centre, was the ideal way to spend a weekend morning with my long-suffering browsing companion, my mother. A beautiful sunny day & balmy weather meant that I could wear my new faded-look blue denim 1960s-style A line mini dress with gold buttons that I picked up from Portmans (constantly mistaken for an Aje design at three times the price, might I add!) & styled up with my favourite pair of silver leather sandals with oversized gold buckles & wooden stacked heels from Florsheim, natural woven straw bucket bag with diamante details from the delightful Oh Jo Jo Boutique to carry all the essentials & a stack of sparkly gold & silver beaded Indian bangles that a dear friend brought back as souvenirs from a trip many years ago for that touch of daytime bling & a real juxtaposition with the denim that added a great deal of interest.

Dress: Portmans denim
Heels: Vayah via Obsession Shoes wood, leather
Bangles: Gift, Lovisa gold, resin

Regardless of anything & everything that might be going on in the world - & your world - time has a way of marching on & in a turn of events that I can't really believe myself, I turned 42 this year! As someone who was (unexpectedly) very ill a few years ago & for eight long days didn't know if I'd even make it to my next birthday, each year older is definitely something to celebrate & my family, friends & I made this anothe rone to remember. For the occasion, I wore a funky indigo stretch denim A-line mini dress with gold buttons down the front from Portmans, styled up with a pair of 70s-inspired chocolate brown & tan leather sandals with extremely chunky wooden heels from a label called Vayah (stocked at the amazing Obsession Shoes at the "top of town" in Ipswich) & a trio of gold bangles from Lovisa for a touch of daytime shine to complete the look.
