There's A Bear In There...

Taking a trip down memory lane with a morning spent enjoying a live Playschool Concert with my cousin & her two boys. In my opinion, the television show "Playschool" is one of the best things that the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has ever produced & I have fond memories of watching the show in the afternoons, cuddling up to my very own Little Ted & Big Ted, endeavouring to make all of the arts & crafts & singing along with the accompanying records. While it may be slightly different these days & the presenters are all young people that I don't really know, there was still that old Playschool magic when watching all of the happy toddlers & kindergarteners laughing & having so much fun.

A blustery, rather overcast day in Queensland meant that I was able to wear a heavy monochrome boucle mini dress from new label Chancery via The Iconic, black polyblend anorak with silver zippers from Mano, embroidered black leather biker boots from Wittner to provide visual interest, 40 denier nylon tights from Razzamatazz, a black vinyl crossbody bag with silver hardware from Urban Originals via TK Maxx & silver hinged bangle from Wallace Bishop to complete the look.

So excited to finally share all the cute pictures of a morning spent taking a trip down "memory lane" at a Playschool Concert with my cousin & her two rambunctious munchkins. For those who haven't seen the show, Playschool is pretty much the darling of Aussie television; the longest running children's show in the country & second longest running in the world, eclipsed only by England's Blue Peter. The stalwart of free-to-air channel 2 (ABC) since 1966 & written by preschool education experts, it comprises of stories, games, songs & skits from a succession of presenters (two per episode) ably assisted by a team of beloved toys including Big Ted, Little Ted, Jemima & Humpty Dumpty to name but a few. As a child, I constantly asked to listen to the records, singing along with such tunes as "Wiggerly Woo" & "Ning Nang Nong," whilst my younger brother would always beg to make the craft projects he'd seen on the show (from toilet-roll binoculars to fridge-box racing cars) forcing my long-suffering mother to find all the "bits & pieces" to make it happen... The phenomenon really was - & is - something particularly special that tugs at my heartstrings even as a rather cynical adult.

There's a bear in there
And a chair as well
There are people with games
And stories to tell
Open wide, come inside
It's Playschool

For the occasion, I decided to wear a comfortable large-scale floral neoprene fit-to-flare dress in shades of navy, emerald green & chartreuse from Taking Shape's now sadly defunct "event wear" line, oversized yellow woolen cardigan with three-quarter-sleeves from Cotton On that I picked up for $10 in the recent mega sale, black matte leather & elastic pointy-toed heels from Wittner with matching black vinyl crossbody bag with silver hardware from Urban Originals to carry all the essentials hands-free & finally, a funky Tibetan silver bracelet from a little boutique on Maple Street in Maleny. The ideal mix of hard & soft textures for wintertime in Queensland.

Scroll down to see how the rest of the morning unfolded...
