If you remain an avid reader of this blog, you'll probably already know how much I adore these utterly divine midi-length wrap dresses from Australian designer Sacha Drake... an infatuation that doesn't show signs of slowing down anytime soon. These dresses are an absolute revelation for someone who, frankly, stayed away from wrap styles as I just didn't think they suited me. I guess that even stylists can get in their own way sometimes when it comes to abiding by so-called fashion "rules." This particular incarnation - the "Peach Faced Wrap Dress" - is a stunning peach & gold floral rayon/silk number with a floaty hemline, deep v-neckline, built-in lining (no slip) & a separate thicker tie belt to go over the side ties & make a statement & I've styled it up for brunch in an idyllic local bushland setting with a pair of stone leather lace-up heels from Jo Mercer for height, a stone vinyl pouch bag from TK Maxx to carry all the essentials & matching gold & silver Karen Walker "bow" necklace & bracelet that a dear friend gave me as a birthday gift a few years ago now.

All dressed up for an event in my beloved River City wearing this absolutely stunning blue & mauve floral silk burnout wrap dress with jersey slip from Brisbane label Sacha Drake. I've styled it for the springtime with a pair of bright mauve vegan leather slingback heels with rounded toes from hipster-cult-label Gorman, a secondhand woven silk ikat print handbag from Vinnies Boonah to carry all the essentials & some favourite silver pieces - a chunky art deco "wave" hinged bangle from the lovely ladies at Precious Stones Jewellers (my favourite place to purchase sublime jewellery pieces in Brisbane) & a single vintage silver bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles on the other wrist to complete the look.

Darling in Deco

*

Dress: Sacha Drake silk, embellished silk
Heels: Jo Mercer leather
Bag: Sportsgirl woven straw
Bangle: Gift, vintage shell mosaic
Bracelet: Gift, vintage shell pieces

Avid readers of this blog will already know how much I absolutely adore not only art deco styling but the complete works of British mystery author Agatha Christie & the fact that famed director Kenneth Branagh has decided to take on the role of Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot (made famous by Sir David Suchet, in my opinion) and film a plethora of new films based (somewhat loosely, as the case may be) on his most famous fictional cases & set during one of my all-time favourite time periods is cause for celebration! To wit, I donned this absolutely divine cream, navy & blue floral print silk wrap dress with peaked cap sleeves, bias cut & embellished belt from Australian designer Sacha Drake to truly immerse myself in "Death on the Nile" & the heady world of 1937 Karnak and Luxor aboard a luxury ocean liner with a handful of seriously devious & fabulously rich individuals... all with secrets that they'd be willing to kill for... I styled it up with a pair of silver leather strappy heels from Jo Mercer to add some height to my five foot frame, a natural woven straw bucket bag from Sportsgirl to carry all the essentials while adding a jaunty "sea cruise" vibe & a pair of matching vintage shell jewellery pieces in the form of a chunky mosaic bangle & large piecemeal bracelet, both with a distinctly ocean blue tinge to complete the look.

For those wondering, I did enjoy the film, however if I'm truly honest, I must admit that I consider it to be third in line for this particular tale - after the David Suchet version from 2004 & the Peter Ustinov version from 1978 which was a literally smorgasbord of superstar performances from Angela Landsbury, Jane Birkin, David Niven, Maggie Smith, Mia Farrow & Olivia Hussey to name but a few. I found it to be a bit slow in some spots (the same as I found with Branagh's version of "Murder on the Orient Express") & some of the changes to Christie's work were unnecessary & in one particular case, quite upsetting. Regardless, it was enjoyable for the amazing scenery, the stunning costumes & the cunning murder plot which many find to be contrived but I consider to be a hallmark of Christie's work, where the timing always works perfectly & every little piece falls into place as if by magic. Have you seen the film? I'd love to know what you thought of it in the comments section.

Gift Wrapped

Dress: Sacha Drake burnout silk, elastane
Ankle Boots: Wittner matte leather
Clutch: Arte Color Handmade via Etsy woven, tassels
Hinged Bangle: Samantha Wills resin, gold
Ring: Samantha Wills gold, onyx

I'm absolutely LOVING Sacha Drake's wrap dresses this season for their versatility, ability to dressed up or down for a myriad of events & innately flattering silhouette regardless of size or height. This stunning little number is made from floral burnout silk with a black elastane slip underneath for modesty & is an utter joy to wear! I've styled it up for a festive event in the River City with a pair of black matte leather ankle boots from Wittner (shaped enough in the front to be mistaken for a normal, heeled shoe but with the sturdiness of a boot, which has really come in handy during these recent downpours), a vibrant blue floral woven envelope-shaped clutch with tassels from the delightful Arte Color Handmade boutique on Etsy & chunky black resin hinged bangle with gold & matching gold teardrop ring with onyx from Aussie designer Samantha Wills to complete the look.
