I'm really relishing the opportunity to wear some of my heavier, winter-weight dresses in fabrics such as jacquard, hammered satin & brocade to some special events in the River City now that the weather has cooled down in South East Queensland. Case in point: this stunning, new season floral embroidered jacquard puff-sleeve midi dress from artist Liv Lee & Gorman's latest collaboration (called the "Freshly Cut Jacquard Dress" for those that may wish to race out & find it either in-store or online) that I've styled up with a pair of gold metallic leather pointy-toed heels with gold ankle strap & buckles from Wittner for a modicum of height, a vintage royal blue woven raffia pouch bag (gifted by a dear friend) to carry all the essentials including a facemask & hand sanitizer, a funky "fashion illustration" gold & enamel bangle from Megan Hess that I was given for a birthday a few years ago & finally, a gold & glitter cocktail ring from Thousand Island Dressing to complete the look.

High Contrast

Dress: Mossman neoprene
Heels: Kitten D'Amour vegan leather
Bag: Sussan vinyl
Watch: Swatch resin, vulcanised rubber
Bangle: Musee de l'Orangerie Gift Shop silver, resin, paper

Something a little bit different with this stunning look, worn to a recent event at the Civic Centre in downtown Ipswich. Rather than my usual florid colour or large-scale florals, I've chosen a sculptural white neoprene midi dress with pleated high neckline, exposed back zipper & long back split from celebrated Australian designer Mossman & for high contrast, I've styled it up with a pair of black vegan leather dual buckle heels from vintage-inspired label Kitten D'Amour & a black 90s style vinyl shoulder bag from Sussan to carry all the essentials including the omnipresent facemask & hand sanitizer. When it came to jewellery, I chose two special pieces featuring work by one of my all-time favourite artists, Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) an Italian painter & sculptor who found his muse in cosmopolitan cafes of Paris - a resin & vulcanised rubber limited edition Swatch watch that features his "Portrait of Dedie" (1918) & a chunky silver, resin & paper bangle from the Musee de l'Orangerie Gift Shop I picked up on holidays in Paris a few years ago that features his masterwork, "Reclining Nude on a White Cushion" (1919) - to complete the look.

So elated to be sharing all the beautiful pictures from a day spent exploring Southbank's Cultural Precinct (after a train ride over the Brisbane River) with a trip to the Queensland Art Gallery & of course, Queensland Museum's newest traveling exhibit, Dinosaurs of Patagonia with my cousin & her two rambunctious future art pundits or paleontologists.

For the occasion, I'm wearing an outfit that worked well for the cooler morning before transitioning into an outfit that was also appropriate as the weather warmed up - a beautiful mixed material dress from City Chic with black jersey racer-back bodice & large-scale floral twill high/low midi skirt in shades of purple, off-white & tan, a cropped purple silk knit cardigan with diamante buttons from retro-inspired label Kitten D'Amour to ward off the chill in the air while providing shape by ending at the smallest part of my waist, a pair of white & tan leather sandals from Easy Steps via my local Myer store for the ideal fusion of comfortable & stylish (& with a nod to art deco sensibilities) & a tan vinyl crossbody bag with wooden clasp from the delightful Soul Nook Collective boutique in the old church at Marburg to carry all the essentials including facemask & hand sanitizer. The gorgeous monochrome woven twine tote bag was a thoughtful birthday gift from a dear friend as well & the perfect size/shape for carrying all the little extras including hat, water bottle, extra coat & the all-important souvenirs. When it came to jewellery, I chose a few special pieces - a stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles that some dear friends brought back from an overseas trip, a single, slightly thicker vintage silver bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles (formerly of Coolangatta) that my younger brother gave me as a birthday gift one year & finally, a funky glitter resin brooch in the shape of a brontosaurus (a sweet little nod to the theme of the day) that I found at a random little boutique on Etsy & thought added that final flourish.

Without further ado, scroll down to see how it all unfolded...

Marveling at the Water Mall's waterfalls as well as the five cast bronze pelican statues (1982) by Queensland sculptors Leonard & Kathleen Shillam...

Whale Mall moments...
Honestly, this has been my favourite part of Southbank's Cultural Precinct for as long as I can remember. Despite the fact that they are fibreglass, there's just something magical about the whale sculptures & how it feels walking down the long concrete walkway & hearing the whale song bounce around you as you go.

Stopping for sustenance at Muse Cafe... in my case a piping hot chai latte & a toasted ham & cheese croissant...
