Festive Fortitude

It only comes around once a year... nope, not Christmas... it's the Valley Fiesta, a street party that permeates every street, mall & laneway in the area with the kind of exuberant joy that doesn't care about things like heat, impending rain, crowds in teeny tiny spaces & parking garages that don't "validate" properly on the weekends so you end up paying more than the $9 it says on the sign... Ahem.

I decided to explore it with my family in tow, hitting the Chinatown Markets first thing (hoping to avoid the heat of the day) before browsing through boxes & boxes of records at Butter Beats & Phase 4, ogling pin-up style dresses in kitschy cherry & flamingo patterns at Trash Monkey, wandering around the eclectic offering of stores in McWhirters & filling up on delicious fare from King of Kings Yum Cha... followed by dessert from the sweet little I Heart Brownies shop in Bakery Lane (try the peanut butter or cherry flavours!) while being serenaded by a litany of talented street musicians. Phew!

Scroll down for more, including a detailed description of what I wore...

Here I am posing up a storm on the opulent red staircase of the King of Kings Yum Cha in a gorgeous midi-length dress with high-neck jersey bodice & flouncy silver photo-print floral satin skirt (gifted to me by a dear friend for Christmas last year); supple silver lace-up brogues from Country Road (ideal footwear for little wanderings, in my opinion) & a matching silver leather laser-cut tote bag from Sashenka Bags, found at my local Trade Secret store for an absolute bargain & absolutely brilliant for carrying around all of my smaller market stall purchases... except for the blow-up green frog with light-up eyes that I'm carrying in all of the pictures; a gift for a certain cheeky two-year-old that those of you who follow me on Instagram will already be acquainted with.

My jewellery was an eclectic mix inspired by my surroundings: a semi-precious stone wrap bracelet with ladybug charm from the Chapel Hill School Fete; brushed silver cuff from Wallace Bishop & a beaded lava stone bracelet with semi-precious-stone "carved face" with matching silver & lava stone ring from Gone Dotti at the Southbank Markets.

And a couple of shots of the aforementioned brownies...
They were highly recommended & did not disappoint!
(Sorry if you're reading this while hungry.)
