Finally posting all the pictures of my costume from this year's Halloween celebrations! Lucky enough to be invited to a "spooktacular" party at a secret location where the theme was Mystical Mythology Madness, it follows that I had no choice but to "dress the part," as the thespians say... & embrace my inner Maenad at the behest of my dear friend & her husband... who eventually consented to dress as "stylised" version of Dionysus escorting us to the Greco-Roman bacchanal. (Sorry to all the "intellectual purists" out there; it's been a long, long time since I studied Ancient History at university.)

In Greek mythology, Maenads were the female followers of Dionysus - the god of wine & intoxication, ritual madness & mystery - & the most significant members of the Thiasus, the god's retinue. Literally translated, their name means "the raving ones" as they are often depicted roaming the mountains & forests performing frenzied, ecstatic dances. In fact, it could be said that they were literally maddened by Dionysus' inspiring power; imbued with the sacred gift of prophesy.

As for my outfit... I was delighted to be gifted with a stunning off-white mesh empire-line maxi dress with asymmetrical neckline, ribbon strap & origami organza corsage (made by a designer in London & shipped over for the occasion) that I then mixed with a pair of knee-high lace-up gladiator sandals in a soft shade of tan from Novo & a leather cross-body bag (well, more like a pouch in my opinion) from Tree of Life to carry a few of the essentials. Gold jewellery pieces completed the ensemble: a pair of handmade, woven gold cuffs that I was given as a birthday present earlier in the year & a modified "laurel" wreath headpiece from my local Lovisa store.

Of course, it wouldn't be Halloween without candy now, would it? Here's a little something I made earlier, using a cheap $2 black plastic "spiderweb" bowl from The Reject Shop & fake "spiderweb" thread, finished off with a flourish... well, four plastic spider-shaped rings, actually. Just in time for trick or treaters...
