While my wardrobe is filled with bright colours & zany patterns, it's sometimes nice to keep things classic with a dress in a darker, plain hue like navy or black - or in this case, both! For a fashion event in the River City, this stunning navy satin princess-seam midi dress with black guipure lace hemline from Anthea Crawford looked utterly divine styled up with a pair of black satin & silver resin peeptoe heeled mules from Wittner (I call them my "Philadelphia Story" shoes because they are similar to a pair worn by Katharine Hepburn in that movie), a silver patent leather hard-case handbag from Olga Berg to carry all the essentials & some of my favourite formal jewellery pieces - a tri-strand pearl bracelet with art-deco-inspired silver clasp & matching silver & onyx ring from the delightful ladies at Precious Stones Jewellers in The Myer Centre (both beautiful birthday presents from my parents) & finally, a silver & diamante chip ring in a stylised diamond shape from Pandora, gifted by some dear friends for Christmas last year. The best part with a dress like this is that it can be worn for years & years without going out of style as it isn't strictly trend-based & furthermore, you can mix & match & restyle to your heart's content with different jewellery & accessories for a myriad of different occasions in all seasons. In a world where things are becoming both more expensive & more disposable, this can only be a very good thing.

A few more for good measure, including a close-up of the aforementioned jewellery pieces...
