In my happy place, slowly browsing around the boutiques, vintage stores & op shops at the "top of town" in Ipswich on a sunny Winter morning, piping hot chai latte in tow, not thinking about anything bothersome like politics, the state of the world, the economy, the future for a little while... As usual, I'm dressed appropriately for the occasion wearing a stunning black, purple & tan floral ramie prairie-style mini dress by a label called Lorraine that I picked up from the delightful Oh Jo Jo Boutique, a pair of shiny chocolate brown patent leather brogues from Melbourne label Alfie & Evie that I discovered at Obsession Shoes, a 1940s-inspired natural woven straw handbag with black resin beaded handle from Kitten D'Amour to carry all the essentials & some of my most beloved silver pieces - a stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles & a single thicker vintage silver bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles for that final touch of daytime shine.

If you read this blog on a regular basis, you'll know that polka dots are a perennial favourite. Equal parts classic & cutesy, polka dots - particularly monochromatic - really make a statement & I've even taken it up a notch with a wide-legged jumpsuit with ruffled neckline from City Chic. I've styled it up with a pair of black vegan leather dual buckle heels from Kitten D'Amour, black vinyl shoulder bag from Sussan to carry all the essentials & some of my most beloved jewellery pieces - a silver & malachite choker necklace & silver hinged bangle from Oxfam Shop that were purchased for my high school formal more than twenty years ago, stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles from some dear friends who now reside overseas & finally, a silver & malachite cocktail ring from (sadly now defunct) The Rock Shop in Brisbane City to complete the look.

Spring has sprung here in South East Queensland but in truth, the backyard we've created is my happy place regardless of season. I absolutely adore the sounds of the many birds that visit to bathe in the birdbath, the many generations of finches that nest in the hedges, the native bees & bumble bees that sip from the flowers & buzz around the lavender, the ladybugs that land on the leaves & yes, even the odd marsupial visitor trying to steal some of our red, ripe strawberries & juicy yellow lemons! On this particular day, I was sitting pretty in the sunshine on the wrought iron swing that started it all - an impulse purchase for my parents for Christmas from my local Bunnings Warehouse store - wearing a gorgeous large-scale floral printed jacquard bell-shaped midi dress with black grosgrain ribbon straps & satin back tie detailing from Asos Edition, styled up with a pair of black matte leather heeled booties from Wittner for a modicum of height, a black leather & natural woven straw handbag from Witchery to carry all the essentials while adding a touch of bohemian flair, a stack of gold & onyx stone bangles & bracelets from an American label called Alex & Ani & finally, a pair of funky green resin sunglasses with rectangular frames from Cotton On to complete the look.

Arty

Sharing all the beautiful pictures from a morning spent checking out the "Rauschenberg & Johns: Significant Others" exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery before heading off to a fashion event a little later in the day. It was nice to be able to meander around the gallery & take time to become fully immersed in the artwork & the era (late 1960s New York City) that led to its creation...

For the occasion, I dressed in shades of blue & navy - a gorgeous navy & duck egg blue embroidered spot chiffon high-neck midi dress with elastic waist & self-tie belt from "girly" Australian label Review, a 1980s-style denim jacket with an exaggerated cocoon shape from Bianca Spender to ward off the chill in the air, a pair of navy patent leather heeled booties from Wittner, navy 40 denier nylon tights from Razzamatazz & a funky navy vinyl circular crossbody bag with pompom strap from French Connection to carry all the essentials (face mask, hand sanitizer) while keeping my hands free. When it came to jewellery, I chose some favourites - a vintage silver bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles (formerly of Coolangatta, now Tweed Heads) & a stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles gifted to me by some dear friends who now reside overseas.
