Fairytale Dressing

*

Dress: Selkie organza, silk ribbons
Heels: Wittner leather, elastic
Bag: Oh Jo Jo Boutique woven straw, diamantes
Bangles: Gift, gold, silver, beads, mirror mosaic (from India)

*

Finally sharing all of the absolutely stunning pictures of the outfit that I styled up to attend a special event in my beloved River City just before Christmas last year! If you're an avid reader of this blog or follow my Instagram closely, you'll probably already know that I utterly adore "fairytale" dressing - that is, puffy, (mostly) baby doll silhouette dress in all lengths made from fabrics like organza, tulle & jacquard in pastel colours & baroque nymph/botanical/floral/dreamscape prints - & the beautiful "Venus Dream Girl" number from whimsical label Selkie with its mauve, blush & gold hues, medieval-inspired print & layers of decadent ruffled organza certainly fits the bill. I even added a plethora of purple silk ribbons to close up the open back detailing (there was one there to start with, right at the top) & the trailing ends just seemed to add to the otherworldly feeling as I spun around in the park in the dappled morning sun, protected from the elements by a rather large, rather shady old tree while on my way. In keeping with the fairytale theme, I added a pair of beige leather & elastic gladiator-style heels from Wittner for a modicum of height, a natural woven straw pouch bag with diamante detailing from Oh Jo Jo Boutique to carry around all the essentials & finally, a stack of sparkling gold & silver beaded & mirrored mosaic bangles that a dear friend brought back from India for that touch of daytime sparkle.

The Big Bauble

*

Dress: Innika Choo via Restyld chambray, embroidery
Sandals: Sundowner via Obsession Shoes leather
Bag: Cotton On woven paper
Bangle Stack: Gift, vintage Mexican silver
Bangle: Gift, 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles vintage silver

One of my favourite little "mini" Christmas traditions is taking a few pictures in one (or more) of the "Big Baubles" at Indooroopilly Shoppingtown & I managed to do that on a couple of occasions this year, including the morning that my father & I went shopping for all of those last minute gifts & took a few happy snaps before heading to Muffin Break for a choc chip muffin & a vanilla milkshake! For the occasion, I went casual with a twist in a relaxed chambray smock dress with elasticated neckline, straps & embroidered floral hem from designer label Innika Choo via Restyld at Paddington, a pair of white & silver leather sandals from Sundowner that I picked up at Obsession Shoes for a modicum of height, a natural woven paper slouch bag from Cotton On to carry all the essentials while retaining a bohemian vibe & my usual silver vintage jewellery pieces for that daytime shine.

Race That Stops A Nation

*

Dress: Sacha Drake jacquard
Heels: Wittner leather, elastic
Clutch: Gift, Alannah Hill beaded
Headband: Lovisa mesh
Bangles: Gift, vintage silver (from India)

*

Although I didn't attend as many Spring Racing Carnival events this year as I normally would due to a packed work schedule, it didn't make my outfit for the "Race That Stops A Nation" or the raceday celebrations any less special! For the occasion - bubbly & a bit of a flutter for charity - I wore a stunning navy blue & silver floral jacquard fit-to-flare gown with asymmetrical neckline from Australian designer Sacha Drake, styled up with a pair of black leather & elastic gladiator-style stiletto heels from Wittner for an unexpected bohemian touch, a silver art-deco style silver & black beaded envelope clutch from Alannah Hill that my parents gave me as a birthday present a few years ago, a black mesh headband with rosette detailing from Lovisa (hiding in a box in the back of my closet for at least ten years, which is why I try to hold on to as much stuff as possible... you never know when it will come in handy for a look) to continue to evoke the "roaring twenties" vibe & finally, two chunky vintage silver bangles that a dear friend brought back from a trip to India to complete the look & add some daytime shine.

Nostalgic Summer

*

Top: TK Maxx white broderie, lace
Shorts: Best & Less denim
Flats: Hael & Jax via Obsession Shoes leather, studs

*

There's something so incredibly nostalgic about wearing a delicate white broderie top with lace trim as the warmer weather hits... especially if you pair it with some blue denim shorts that really make a child of the 80s/early 90s like me feel all kinds of summertime vibes! The beautiful blouse in question was under $50 from my local TK Maxx store & is super soft & cool & cottagecore while the denim was an absolute bargain from chain store Best & Less for a mere $35. I've styled them up here with a pair of black leather & silver studded pointy-toed flat Mary Janes from a label called Hael & Jax that I picked up from the inimitable Obsession Shoes for a finishing touch of hard-edge cool-girl juxtapostion.

Marburg in the Morning

Dress: Retro Metro Paddington upcycled vintage
Sandals: Pitillos via Obsession Shoes leather, elastic
Bag: Cellini via Laidley Shoez vinyl
Bangle Stack: Gift, vintage Mexican silver
Bangle: Gift, 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles vintage silver

As many of my avid readers probably already know, I absolutely adore spending time in little townships browsing around antique stores & boutiques & this is especially true around Christmas time when I'm on the hunt for ecletic gifts for family & friends. On this occasion, I was visiting Marburg wearing a gorgeous upcycled woven cotton, ribbon & lace Mexican dress (cut really, really short) from Retro Metro Paddington, a pair of navy leather & elastic heeled sandals from a label called Pitillos that I picked up at Obsession Shoes, a navy vinyl handbag with beige ribbon accents from Cellini that I found recently at Laidley Shoez to carry all the essentials & some of my most beloved pieces of silver jewellery - a stack of vintage Mexican bangles that some dear friends brought back from overseas & a single vintage silver bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles that my brother gave me as birthday present a few years ago.
