Finally posting all the pictures from an amazing, full-on Saturday spent with my little brother, Louis, hitting up some of our favourite vintage stores - Woolloongabba Antique Centre & Southside Antiques - before heading to Mt Gravatt for a late lunch at Grilld, Sunnybank for gameplay at Funhouse & a screening of "Jurassic World" THEN dinner at Madtongsan Korean restaurant... Phew!

Such a busy day demanded a stylish, comfortable ensemble & this stunning Egyptian print silk shift from Ivanka Trump was the perfect base for layering with its black & silver base pattern, square cut & bateau neckline. Check it out below with a midi-length, soft SSF trench coat with silver buttons over the top:

Cooler temperatures meant that a third layer was required - cue this graphic, black, grey & red tribal printed wool cape with fringed hem from my local Suzanne Grae store; incredibly warm without the bulk of many knitted blankets & pictured in detail below:

In this case, the pattern-mixing works for 3 reasons:
1. The context is the same. Both the dress & cape are considered to be "ethnic" prints & therefore make sense. This wouldn't be the case if one was Egyptian & the other was a ditzy floral, for example.
2. The scale is different. The Egyptian print is small scale whilst the tribal print of the cape is much larger, meaning that neither pattern "competes" for attention.
3. The colours match. The shade of red on the cape matches the pops of red inherent in the dress pattern.

Once again, black accessories "anchored" the look - a pair of 40 denier matte Razzamatazz tights & comfortable Ziera patent & matte brogues with wedge heels & ribbon laces - as well as a puce coloured Vera May handbag made from soft patent for yet another pop of colour. What can I say? It was the weekend & I'm all for visual interest in clothing! Jewellery was kept to a minimum due to the busyness of the outfit - merely a chunky, mixed metal studded bangle from Tree of Life to pull the entire look together & add the perfect finishing touch.

Now that all of the outfit details are out of the way, scroll down to see me looking all "Joe Cool" in my new John-Lennon-style sunglasses from Witchery, enjoy some snippets from the day & read my quick little review about the 4th installment of the "Jurassic Park" franchise:

First Stop: Woolloongabba Antique Centre for a rummage through the curios...

Second Stop: A look at Southside Antique Centre & the other little boutiques on Ipswich Road...

Third Stop: Hitting up Grilld at Mt Gravatt for a delicious lunchtime feast of lamb & pickle sliders, zucchini chips & sweet potato wedges...

Fourth Stop: Fun & games at Funhouse Family Entertainment, Sunnybank before an afternoon screening of "Jurassic World" at Hoyts.

What was the verdict on the prehistoric pic that everyone's talking about?

It's no secret that I am a HUGE fan of the original "Jurassic Park" movie, even going as far as to watch the anniversary re-release on the big screen last year. The second & third installments were somewhat disappointing to me, however, particularly the ending of "The Lost World" where dinosaurs took over New York City. This movie made up for those, in my opinion, harking back to the suspense, showmanship & grandeur of the very first with epic performances from Chris Pratt & Bryce Dallas Howard to rival Sam Neil and Laura Dern, bringing the franchise full circle in that neat, "tied up with a bow" style that Steven Spielberg loves so much.

Fifth & Final Stop: Madtongsan for scrumptious Korean fare, washed down with an EasyWay milk tea with tapioca balls...
