Spent a wonderful Thursday exploring the boutiques, antiques & cafe culture of Highfields - a little town just north of Toowoomba along the New England Highway - with one of my dearest friends, in honour of her upcoming birthday!

The brisk Autumn weather meant that another layer (a black mesh three-quarter-sleeved long-line duster from Taking Shape) was needed over my already "Wintery" outfit - a stunning 1950s style Anthea Crawford fit-to-flare dress with black jersey bodice, tapered elbow-length sleeves, bateau neckline & bouffant vivid blue & black large-scale rose printed satin skirt with tulle underlay for added "swish."
When it came to footwear, comfort was key: enter these amazing black leather & suede lace-up sandals/booties from Novo, ideal for the "in between" late Autumn weather in the Sunshine State. The cross-body bag was also a must for "hands free" rummaging & this gorgeous circular black patent option with its idyllic "front yard complete with fluffy white cat" scene from Vera May fitted the bill perfectly.
Jewellery was minimal & matching - a shiny silver hinged bangle from Wallace Bishop & silver ring with onyx stone centre by Georgini from Zamels.
Facing my fears - there was an "incident" with rainbow lorikeets stealing my morning tea & getting "high" on the sugar at The Polish Place on Mount Tamborine a few years ago - by dining with this slightly pushy magpie at The Chocolate Cottage & Cafe...
My Choice: Warm Smoked Salmon on a Crusty Roll with Rocket, Potato Salad & Pickles
The Birthday Girl's Choice: Warm Steak Stack with Pesto on Panini
Washing it all down with a Malted Strawberry Milkshake & Latte with Chocolate Powder
Through the archway into the Abbey Lane Arts & Crafts Village
Enjoying an eclectic shopping experience in this quaint vintage caravan...
Back in the car for a drive through Toowoomba...
Ascending the historical stone steps to Queens Park
Daytrippers!
Stopping for afternoon tea at the iconic Cafe Valetta, built in 1911 & loving renovated in 2004.
Finishing the day with a cup of coffee & a divine Citrus Tart (with scoop of vanilla ice-cream on the side) before the long drive home...
