"With our THOUGHTS, we make the WORLD."

2016 marked the 20th anniversary of the Buddha Birth Day Festival at Southbank Parklands, so this year the three day celebration of all things peace, love & understanding was bigger & more inclusive than ever! In addition to Buddha Bathing, Baby Blessings, Tai Chi classes, Chinese Tea ceremonies, enlightening lectures, Bonsai growing, Year of the Monkey storytime puppets & a whole host of mind-expanding activities for children, there were also performances by several multicultural music & social groups including one particularly colourful, ruffle-costume-heavy Brazilian dance ensemble that really had the crowd on their feet! Add a litany of delicious multicultural food stalls (with a focus on tasty vegetarian options) to the mix, as well as eclectic market stalls & the stunning backdrop of the meandering Brisbane River - all enjoyed in the company of family & dear friends - & I ask you: what more could one ask for on the first day of a long weekend?

For such a full day out, I donned a divine waterlily print silk/satin 1950s style fit-to-flare midi dress with grosgrain ribbon belt, tulle underlay & front-to-back v-neckline detail from Anthea Crawford, comfortable black leather & elastic gladiator sandals from Novo & carried a vivid yellow vinyl tote bag with gold hardware & an oversized tassel from Colette by Colette Hayman (a birthday present) for easy access to all the essentials - phone, wallet, hairbrush, water bottle, sunglasses & scarf to wear if the weather turned cool or to sit on if no other seats were available.

When it came to jewellery, I chose a trio of statement-making pieces - a black & grey marbled resin cuff from a little store called Mahnee at Coolangatta, a thin gold "wrap around" tribal bangle & matching oversized cocktail ring that a friend brought back from a recent stay in India. Finishing the look was a vintage straw sunhat with raffia flowers adorning the front from the Ipswich Antique Centre; ideal for keeping the Queensland sun's damaging rays at bay.

Well, now that the fashion is taken care of, scroll down to see how the day unfolded...
