I don't know if it's something to do with getting a bit older or a bit wiser or even just the fact that I'm embracing a (slightly) more casual dress code ever since the seemingly-endless Covid lockdowns started around this time last year, but I have certainly discovered the joys of wearing natural fibres more often, particularly when it comes to daywear. The heat & humidity that seems to categorise life here in Queensland is no joke & although there are days where nothing short of living inside a refrigerator would make me feel more comfortable, natural fibres can & do make a difference & the fact that they seem to require a bit more upkeep that their manmade counterparts like brocade, jacquard & organza is something that I've learnt to live with & maybe even slightly exploit when I can... anyone else love the whole "this linen/cotton/silk dress is SUPPOSED to look crushed & disheveled; it's called fashion" excuse as much as I do? It certainly saves on the whole steaming/ironing/starching nightmares that seem to be part & parcel of these natural wonders, especially when they are a plain colour with absolutely no pattern or print to hide any imperfections behind.

Case in point: this darling floral printed linen shift dress (in a green/blue colourway) from funky, kitschy label Princess Highway that is AMAZING for the warmer weather... so amazing, in fact, that I even purchased it in the purple/black colourway when it came on sale! It's light & airy, washes & dries really well & although it's hell to iron, the vibrant, large-scale floral covers it pretty seamlessly. I've styled it up for family dinner with a pair of faux leopard print & black leather lace-up heels from Nine West - making it feel a little dressier & more grown-up courtesy of the pattern-mixing & textural clash - & added a stunning, vintage bead & silver pendant necklace from the delightful Beautiful Pangea on Etsy to complete the look & tie everything together, while adding a touch of bohemian charm.
