Franny Gets Festive: Light Show (3/6)

One of my all-time favourite things about Christmas is the plethora of twinkling lights adorning many houses & the stunning displays that many creative individuals have devised for the enjoyment of themselves & others. I am dedicating this third Franny Gets Festive post to the wonderful evening spent with my cousin & her two little munchkins, driving around the neighbourhood to see as many as possible before it was long past their bedtimes.

*Not pictured: the quick pit stop to eat hot chips & raisin toast in the parking lot of one of our local fast food drive-through restaurants... keeping it classy, as always...

STOP ONE: Rawlings Road, Deebing Heights

This place was absolutely amazing with its dual Christmas Villages, one large scale & one small. The boys particularly loved the trains as they sped around the smaller, incredibly detailed village... although there was also much fun to be had pushing the buttons to make smoke come out of the chimney at the Sweets & Treats Elf Bakery... Special Thanks to the kind lady (a random stranger with children of her own) who offered to take some snaps of the two of us with the boys as we were leaving. We really appreciated it!

A small note about the fashion...
I'm wearing the same gorgeous black & neon floral printed cotton fit-to-flare dress with cold-shoulder detailing from Anthea Crawford that I donned earlier in the day at another dear friend's place but I took off the resin jewellery, added a black vinyl crossbody bag with silver hardware from Urban Originals to carry all the essentials (map, phone) & changed my heels to a pair of comfortable clear rubber flat thongs from Witchery, owing to the fact that it was still over 30 degrees Celsius at seven o'clock at night! For a more detailed look at the dress, see the previous post.

STOP TWO: St James Place, Flinders View

In this street, many of the houses have small to medium light displays... including one house in particular with a light show that included childhood favourites such as Peppa Pig, Hello Kitty & Minions as well as touches of Australiana with light-up kangaroos & emus.

STOP THREE: Inverness Street, Flinders View

This street was alive with bright lights, loud music & Saint Nick himself! After parking a MILE away (no exaggeration) we were pleasantly surprised by the sheer amount of things to see & do - getting our pictures taken in cardboard cut-outs, patting plush reindeer in their stables, walking through lit-up archways into elf villages & checking out the recyclable materials section, where one person's trash was turned into hilarious Christmas characters from television shows like South Park and The Simpsons.

STOP FOUR: Nova Court, Flinders View

This was, in my opinion, the penultimate place to enjoy Christmas Lights, melding the secular joy of Christmas (Santa) with the true meaning of religious Christmas - the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable in Bethlehem. Keep scrolling to check out the twinkling reindeer in the manger... it really did give me a belly laugh on the night!

Even after all the bright lights of the previous locations, the boys were particularly transfixed by one little house across the road that had a few twinkling bulbs in the garden & a train track set up on the driveway, guarded by Minnie Mouse as Mrs Claus & Frosty the Snowman. We must have stopped to watch that train go around & around for twenty minutes even though we'd been out for over three hours & they boys were getting very tired... It just goes to show that no matter how big or small the display, sharing the gift of Christmas Spirit with others is truly worth it.
