Memorialise

 

A misty morning spent in town, taking some pictures at the beautiful, sacred war memorial in Baines Park, Limestone Street, Ipswich. In the summertime, this area is awash with bright red blooms from the trees but during the winter, it hits a more solemn note. What I love about our town/city is the way that we take such care with the memories of those who lost their lives in service of our country & who gave their lives fighting for our freedom in many conflicts around the world. This specific memorial - originally located at the intersection of Burnett & Brisbane Streets before being moved to its current location in 1967 - loving honours "Our Boys" who lost their lives fighting "For King & Country" in the Great War 1914-1919.

While I am one of those people who firmly believes that leopard print can be a neutral in any wardrobe, the truth of the matter is that I don't actually own very much of it myself, instead choosing to feature florals & polka dots when it comes to prints & patterns. This gorgeous dress from Selkie is the exception, however, with its traditional brown-hued leopard print, dainty sleeves, mini length & puff silhouette - augmented with some black lace trim that I added myself - working so well in the winter months. I've styled it with a bit of a grunge 90s edge up for an event in the River City with a pair of edgy black matte leather biker boots with white "graffiti" style embroidery from Wittner, black 40 denier nylon tights from Razzamatazz to keep my legs feeling toasty-warm & a black vinyl triangular shoulder bag from French Connection that I picked up at my local TK Maxx store to carry all the essentials.

All dressed up for a retelling of Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories (told with marionettes) in my beloved River City. I'm leaning into a theme with a beautiful leopard print cotton tiered midi dress with leg-of-mutton sleeves, shirred bodice & oversized, ruffled collar from Australian label Kachel, discovered at my local Myer department store & styled up with a pair of black matte leather ankle boots with heels from Wittner (ideal for a modicum of height owing to the length of the dress), black 40 denier nylon tights from Razzamatazz to keep my legs feeling toasty warm, a black vinyl shoulder bag from Sussan to carry all the essentials & some of my favourite silver jewellery pieces that blend in to let the dress truly shine - a chunky silver hinged bangle from Wallace Bishop & a pair of beautiful silver rings from Israel that were gifted to me by dear friends.
