Franny & the Machine

Getting into the British rocker vibe of the day - Rolling Stones, baby! - I just had to post pictures of these awesome kaftans that remind me of something singer Florence Welch from British band, Florence & the Machine (scroll down for the lyrics of their biggest hit, Never Let Me Go) would wear...

I have dubbed them, "Franny & the Machine."

Loving the 1970s throwback, bohemian songbird look all-year-round with the first look in spring-weight navy crepe & the second in velvet for the dead of winter...

LOOK #1
Kaftan: Vintage, 1970s crepe
Heels: Emerson @ Big W patent
Clutch: Diana Ferrari patent
Hinged Bangle: Gift
Flower Beaded Bracelet: The Gift Tree, Ipswich

Updating this kaftan for 2014 was a cinch with matching black patent accessories in the form of a pair of sky-high patent platforms & a slightly rounded clutch with silver clip that mirrors the shape of the trim on the bust line, waist & cuffs of the dress.

To "play up" the gold inherent in the trim, I have chosen jewellery that combines both the gold & silver metals - a hinged bangle in a circular design & a bracelet of large flower beads, matching the piping's floral motif.

LOOK #2
Kaftan: Vintage, 1970s velvet
Booties: Emerson @ Big W suede
Clutch: Kardashian Kollection vinyl
Necklace: Dissh

Supremely stylish & comfortable, this velvet kaftan is fit for the new century when mixed with accessories of varying textures - a pair of sculptural suede booties & a faux crocodile skin vinyl envelope clutch with gold hardware (matching the gold trim on the waist & cuffs) as well as a funky gold chain necklace with black horse-hair tassels. Very rock & roll...

Looking up from underneath
Fractured moonlight on the sea
Reflections still look the same to me
As before I went under

And it's peaceful in the deep
Cathedral where you cannot breathe
No need to pray, no need to speak
Now I am under all

And it's breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
Never let me go
