This "unseasonably warm" spell has me thinking of the gorgeous blue-toned outfit I wore on one of THE hottest day of the year...so far... & never got the chance to blog about. As Murphy's Law - "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" or The Bad Timing epithet, as it is commonly known - dictates, the event I was actually melting at... sorry, attending... was an Autumn/Winter 2015 fashion launch for one of the city department stores. Here the poor models were, traipsing down the runway in layers of mohair & wool, while the air-conditioners struggled to cope in the 39 degree temperature & fashion pundits fanned themselves with anything to hand - programs, magazines, clutch bags...

But I digress.

I had planned on wearing something in a darker hue to signify the approaching winter, but that was absolutely out of the question! Plan B was this gorgeous textured jacquard dress from Anthea Crawford - in a cooling, calming hue called "Capri" that was obviously meant to evoke images of the picturesque island paradise in the Gulf of Naples, Italy - with a draped v-neckline & waist pleating detail.

Rather than the all-too-expected white or way-too-dark-for-such-a-steamy-day black, trendy iridescent accessories were chosen - a pair of sky-high peeptoe platforms from Betts for Her & a whimsical clutch in the shape of a lolly wrapper from the sadly-now-defunct Mombasa store at Indooroopilly. What is ah-mazing about iridescence is the way it picks up on the colour tones in the dress & accessories & reflects it back in a myriad of different ways, meaning the look is in constant, fluid motion.

The jewellery chosen kept to the silver & blue theme of the day - a thick, silver hinged bangle from Wallace Bishop, thin twisted silver bangle from Hourglass Jewellers, tiny silver flower ring from Sportsgirl & silver & blue semi-precious stone ring (with elastic) from Sistaco that was a Christmas present from my Aunt.

The statement piece, however, was the multi-strand, wooden beaded necklace from Eb & Ive in the same shade as the dress itself. What I LOVE about these necklaces is the way that they are chunky enough to make an impact, yet so light that the wearer doesn't require a neck brace by the end of the day. Trust me, the merging of fashion & function isn't usually so easy to find! Check out the aforementioned piece de resistance in all its glory below:

Wise words, sweetly stated...
