Mother/Daughter

Spent a wonderful Friday with my mother, Joanne, shopping up a storm in the Queen Street Mall before enjoying a delicious lunch at Dumpling Republic followed by a walk across the bridge to Southbank for a look at the Queensland Art Gallery's latest acquisitions & rest in the lush, green courtyard beyond, surrounded by breath-taking sculptures & modern art installations...

The difficulty I find in the dressing appropriately for the hot & humid Queensland Summer is that it lends itself to rather casual clothing... & I absolutely LOVE to dress up, particularly when making the effort to travel into the City. I'm old fashioned that way; I can't help it! This 1950s style dress from Anthea Crawford is the best of both worlds - the vibrant floral print harks back to the "glory days" of "event dressing" with its soft boning & voluminous skirt with horsehair in the hemline (for stiffening) while the relaxed cotton sateen fabric & split neckline has a distinctly modern twist.

Rather than mixing the more expected black accessories with the look, I decided to change it up with a pair of peachy flesh-tone leather & elastic gladiator sandals from Novo - excellent for doing a lot of walking whilst still maintaining an air of stylishness - & colour-blocked vinyl handbag from Anthea Crawford for a touch of youthful je ne sais quois

Jewellery also had an air of whimsy - a chunky silver & gold flower bracelet with diamantes that I was given years ago by a dear friend from university, a silver "ball" ring that I picked up from the Eagle Street Markets around the same time & a rub-on faux tribal-style tattoo from Sportsgirl. I love the way that they easily adhere to the skin with water & can be rubbed off after a day or two without leaving a mark or redness of any kind. The packet says that each one will last approximately 3 days but I find that if I'm careful, they seem "good as new" for a lot longer...

Mum looking stylish while traversing the "Infinity Pool" in a monochrome spotted jacquard sheath dress with high neckline from David Lawrence, strappy sandals with a small wedge heel by Easy Steps & a black vinyl handbag from Jag, augmented by a pair of white pearl earrings & vintage-style, primary-colour-printed silk scarf from Anthea Crawford.
