Beachy Keen: Part One

You may have noticed that things have been pretty quiet on the blog for the past couple of weeks... You have? Well, that's because I've been enjoying a family beach holiday on Queensland's celebrated Gold Coast! Those who follow me on Instagram (francespenny) will have seen snippets already but suffice to say, I have plenty to photographs that I'm eager to share with you all in successive posts over the NEXT FIVE DAYS so keep checking back each & every afternoon for a little something new.

For now, though, scroll down to see how Part One of the trip unfolded...

WE MADE IT!

Posing beside this amazing graffiti-style mural of Coolangatta in a bright, lipstick red cotton midi dress with pleated waist detail from Portmans & matching mesh cardigan from Ipswich bohemian stalwart Trottie Becke, tied in the front for shaping; lightweight black & red joggers from celebrated French brand Le Coq Sportif (purchased from my local Trade Secret store at an absolute bargain price); monochrome Ikat cotton & black leather cross-body bag from Ripcurl & a moulded "coral" shaped resin cuff that I picked up at this year's Paniyiri Greek Festival.

Afternoon beachside walks in a vintage Mexican linen shift dress with hand-embroidered red & black birds both at the yoke & scattered around that I found a couple of years ago at Woolloongabba Antique Centre; black & brown rubber sandals with ankle straps & gold diamante details from Novo; black vinyl cross-body bag with gold hardware from Sportsgirl; faux tortoiseshell round-rimmed "John Lennon" style sunglasses from Witchery & a selection of beachy, bohemian bracelets - a wrap around option made from creamy pieces of shell with a ladybug pendant (found at the recent Chapel Hill Fete) & a pair of handmade knitted bracelets with wooden beads of different shapes from last year's Coolangatta Markets.

Posing up a storm like an old-time Vogue model on the rickety steps down to the sand; this time with a Before Sunset woven hat on my head to ward off the afternoon sun's harmful rays...

Nothing better than a two scoop ice-cream in a cup from Baskin Robbins... particularly if those two scoops are Jamoca Almond Fudge & Mint Choc Chip!

Night-time views from the thirteenth floor balcony...

Overcast morning treks to brunch in a white linen maxi kaftan with black embroidery from Country Road (sleeves pushed up for a bit of attitude); white elastane Taking Shape slip underneath for obvious reasons; white leather lace-up flatform brogues from Wittner; a pop of muted colour with a blue vinyl cross-body bag from Sportsgirl & a chunky, black wooden beaded bracelet with silver sun & moon charms from Thousand Island Dressing at Paddington.

Mother/Daughter

Joanne is wearing a pair of denim shorts (cuffs rolled up) from Suzanne Grae; printed cotton three-quarter button-down shirt from Black Pepper at David Jones & the same black & red Le Coq Sportif joggers (this time with sockettes) that I was wearing earlier on her feet. Yep, we share & share alike in our family...

Eggs Benedict on Sour Dough with Herbed Mushrooms & Hollandaise Sauce from Cecada's Modern Dining at Coolangatta. BEST BRUNCH EVER in my humble opinion. Click here to see their menu or book... you won't be disappointed!

Treating myself with a Condensed Milk & Lemon Tart from Sunbaked Bakery. I could eat one of these each & every day for the rest of my life & never get tired of it...

Windswept afternoons in a black linen three-quarter-sleeved kaftan with embroidered sleeves & tie neckline from Seed Heritage; black woven elastic sandals by Sandgroper from a little boutique called Se Bliss in Coolangatta; a blue vinyl cross-body bag from Sportsgirl; faux tortoiseshell round-rimmed sunglasses from Witchery & a pair of beaded shell wrap bracelets from the little store at the Greenway Garden Centre to complete the look.

Creme Strawberry with Cream & White Chocolate Flakes from Zarraffa's Coffee... somehow made even better when posing against a wall of Mambo-style graffiti inside The Strand Shopping Centre...

Looking towards Froggys' Beach before the rain begins to fall...

Father/Daughter

Rayne is wearing a black cotton Mix t-shirt with a picture of what is often referred to as an "Oldsmobile" on the front that I picked up from my local Coles Supermarket at the end of last year.
