Spent a wonderful summer afternoon helping a certain small boy celebrate turning 6 years old! 17 excited children & their parents arrived laden with gifts to join the revelry in Belinda & Arthur's lush, green backyard - for the next 2 hours there were games to be played, candles to be blown out, slices of cake to be eaten & running to be done... lots & lots of running. Clearly small children don't feel the heat & humidity like adults, who were all-but melting on our plastic chairs until a beautiful afternoon breeze cooled everything down.

Unlike the birthday boy, who was super-styling in a furry panda hat with ear flaps & large, sparkly "It's My Birthday" badge, I decided on the more sedate offering of a vivid party dress & printed heels. The gorgeous little number featured a scoop neckline, large bow at the waistline dotted with black sequins & a long black & silver exposed zipper down the back. Typical of Eplisse, attention to detail was key, with the zipper featuring a little diamante-encrusted E at the very top, just to make the wearer feel extra-special.

A plain-coloured dress required patterned heels & these tropical print babies from Novo fit the bill perfectly - in fact, the "Bird of Paradise" flower featured was actually growing in the garden behind our chairs! Rather than the standard black handbag, I decided to up the ante by taking one in a shade of yellow (with black piping) that matched the shoes whilst providing contrast to the dress' saturated hue.

Jewellery was kept minimal on such a muggy day - a chunky, silver hinged bangle & 2 clear resin bangles with silver patches, tied together with a black bow, mirroring the one at the dress' waist. Continuing the theme was the outfit's sweet finishing touch: a headband with oversized black satin bow, shown in detail below:

Scroll down for some pictures of the day's happenings...

A sneak peek at one of his gifts, wrapped in space monster paper...
You know, because he's 6 & a boy & they like that kind of thing.

A few snaps with Mum, also resplendent in party attire...

The birthday boy himself opening his card - while wearing a furry panda hat on a hot summer day, as you do when you're 6 & your Uncle Louis has brought it back as a souvenir from Chengdu, China...

Why is a panda opening Jeremy's present? Oh, wait...

Opening more presents with a pint-sized partygoer...

The outdoor festivities begin...

Playing with the opened presents...
Well, somebody has to teach him how to use the bow & arrow set!

An earlier birthday present (from me) in "the confiscation zone."
When will it be free to pop another wheelie? Only time will tell...

Giving his Aunty Fran a hug...

Well, all that remains is to say
HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY
to my bright, spunky little kindred spirit & mischievous partner-in-crime Jeremy!
