Holding out for a Hero

Finally posting all the pictures of a recent Saturday spent traversing Southbank's Cultural Precinct with family, exploring the Gladiators: Heroes of the Colosseum & the Wild State exhibits at the Queensland Museum, checking out all the colourful works at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) & ruminating on the collection of curated masterworks at the Queensland Art Gallery... all the while enjoying the sights, sounds & sustenance found at the celebrated Parklands by the River.

With the weekend looming after a long working week (does anyone else feel like it has just dragged on & on?) scroll down to be inspired by things to do, things to see, things to wear & things to eat in the City of Brisbane...

Ready to step back in time wearing a girly petrol green lace & jersey fit-to-flare midi dress from Aussie brand Review (known for their retro-inspired "girly" aesthetic) "toughened" up by the addition of chunky black leather ankle boots with stark white tattoo-style embroidery from Wittner & matte 40 denier nylon tights from Razzamatazz to balance the hint of black bra strap under the bodice of the dress. Rather than my usual shoulder bag, I opted for a black vinyl cross-body bag with silver hardware from Urban Originals to carry all the essentials while keeping my hands free; a top "stylist's tip" for playing tourist... even in your own city. Jewellery was a statement in minimalism - a thick shiny silver bangle from Wallace Bishop & funky "roll up" ring from Thousand Island Dressing in Paddington, both worn on the same side for impact. Not pictured at this point: my cropped black leather jacket with Victorian-style collar & superfluous buttons from Just Jeans, however it will be featured later in the post, thanks to the crazy Queensland weather.

Well, without further ado, scroll down to see how the day unfolded...
