Dressing for events can be tricky; particularly if it is a gathering full of people who you feel are intellectual, stimulating, interesting & artistic... & you want them to think similarly of you. I have come to the conclusion that it is best to just be yourself in these situations, wearing something that you feel comfortable in (that is, of course, dress-code appropriate) & makes you feel good - but perhaps has a few surprise elements to keep them on their toes. This outfit, worn on an absolute SCORCHER of a Queensland summer's day for a recent series of events in Southbank's Cultural Precinct followed by a peruse of the APT9 exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) & spin around the Wheel of Brisbane, is a great example of this stylist & fashion blogger truly practicing what she preaches.

The stunning, lightest-of-light mint green guipure lace "wiggle" dress with ruffled hemline from ultra-feminine label Phase Eight (exclusive to David Jones in Australia) is grounded by edgy accessories in the form of a pair of deep khaki green suede pointy-toed heels with shiny silver buckles & dual ankle straps from Wittner & a black suede roll-top clutch from Portmans to carry all of the essentials. These darker-hued options & their juxtaposition with the colour of the dress are what give the outfit brevity & add interest, particularly with the finishing flourish of an almost-burnished silver hinged bangle in the shape of a wave or swirl (picking up on the stylised florals in the lace of the dress) from Precious Stones for that touch of daytime shine. One famous fashion pundit once said, "Always leave them wanting more" & for me, this the the way to accomplish that, piecing together an ensemble of divergent pieces that are at once unexpected & inextricably linked.
