Spent a delightful morning watching my best friend & her father perform in the Cambrian Choir’s "Songs from the Hearth."

All of the tunes performed were beloved “winter warmers” such as Irving Berlin’s Always, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s All I Ask of You & Sting’s Fields of Gold or Christmas-in-July Carols like Let It Snow & Frosty the Snowman… & all for a mere $10 entry fee. Add to this the fact that the interval was spent sipping tea & stuffing in homemade cakes, pastries, mini quiches & finger sandwiches & it was a great way to spend a wintry Wednesday!

As many of you may already know, I love to dress to the theme or “vibe” of an occasion, so I couldn’t resist breaking out my feather-print 60s style shift dress with real feather hemline to celebrate the fact that Belinda is now a bona-fide songbird! It was the ideal mix of classy & cutesy… plus the flowing style came in handy when sampling all of the delicious homemade fare. The addition of black tights & booties helped to anchor such a colourful look & the grey waiter jacket added a touch of insouciant elegance for daytime.

The pink tones in the ensemble cried out for silver & rose gold jewellery & I was happy to oblige, wearing not only the beautiful watch that had been a 30th birthday present from some dear friends but also the vintage silver bracelet with filigreed heart locket (& tiny key!) that had been yet another sublime birthday surprise. Something was missing, however & I knew it was the rose gold cameo ring that had once belonged to my Aunty Emily, particularly seeing that she LOVED singing & would have thoroughly enjoyed watching the choir perform... while singing along from her seat, of course...

This happy day of songbirds led me to get a little crazy with the camera & take some pictures with a nifty new toy that is available at Big W called the DigiBird (who may or may not be making his way to the homes of some little people that I know very soon…) These little plastic birds sit on your finger & sing back to you – moving their little heads & beaks in an approximation of the real thing – when you whistle. So sweet & so much easier to clean up after than the real thing!

Speaking of pets - real & otherwise - even Huckleberry the spoodle (poodle & cocker spaniel mix) loved my feather-hemmed outfit of choice, making me  - as the wearer, you understand - more popular than the doggy treats he'd usually do anything for... even behave, sort of...
