Channelling Anastasia, the tragic-yet-fabled Tsarina of Russia with my ensemble, the ideal choice for a (late) luncheon celebrating the end of the 2014 Winter Racing Carnival & timely given the finally (!) chilly Queensland weather, replete with westerly winds.

Vintage touches - the delicate watch that was a gift from my Poppy to my Nanna in 1952 (complete with heartfelt description), quirky ice-skater brooch found of a trip to the now-sadly-relocated Adornments of Paddington & the 1950s cocktail hat from Paris with original bow hat pin still attached - add elements of old world charm, evoking the theme of "Old Glories, Glorious Futures."

The black lace sleeves & keyhole neckline add sophistication to the sexy & modern bandage dress from the new-look Montique brand, finished off with a faux-fur wrap bought on a birthday shopping trip with my dear friend Jenny. You know those items you see in the window of a store & just HAVE to have, even though they are impractical both for your climate & your lifestyle? I wasn't intending to play an extra in an off-Broadway version of Dr Zhivago, for example, but I'm glad I took the plunge as this particular wrap has had quite a few outings recently...

Finally, what remained of this day of winter decadence was to enjoy chatting with other style mavens & trend-setters, our sights now firmly set on that "Super Bowl" of Fashion, the Spring Racing Carnival. Only four months to go until the Melbourne Cup... time to get off & racing!
