Weekend Wears #3

For some, it will go down in history as "election weekend," but for me, it was a couple of days filled with shopping & soaring temperatures.

Cue 2 unique & summery outfits for 2 very different locations...

Saturday dawned bright, clear - & hot - but, undaunted, we made our way to the local school to cast our votes... Then, with our democratic duty/privilege/right over, we made our way to the revamped Indooroopilly Shoppingtown for some serious gift shopping as well as some serious chowing down at the amazing Yum Cha restaurant on the ground floor...

All that before an afternoon hail storm blew in, cooling the air & providing some relief - although we were just relieved that THIS time, our car was under cover!

And my amazing Hache cotton trapeze-shaped smock with shoelace drawstring neckline & balloon hemline was the perfect choice to see me through it all. The avant garde shape was funky & the washed-out black & white stripe print with scribbled black, hot pink & cobalt blue roses striking yet casual - the perfect mix of class & grunge.

Black patent gladiator-style sandals work with the midi-hemline to "anchor" the look, mixed with a cobalt blue patent handbag for a pop of colour that matched the scribbled blue flowers.

Jewellery was simple in keeping with the homage to the 1990s - a vintage aluminium cuff with rose gold tinge & semi-precious stones that was a gift from a very dear friend as well as a vintage sapphire & diamond ring that was given to me by an old lady who used to live across the road from us when we first moved in, who has unfortunately passed away. It may be expensive, fine jewellery, but I think it works well when dressed down for a trendier, more youthful look.

Some snaps of me with a few anatomically-spliced, moped-riding friends...
because bizarre man/animals love bargains too, right?

And at Yum Cha...
I STILL may not be able to hold my pencil correctly, but I'm a whiz with chopsticks...
Funny how life works, isn't it?

Sunday dawned bright, clear - & hot - but, regardless, we...

Sounds familiar, doesn't it? In all seriousness, the final day of the weekend was spent traipsing around a myriad of antique shops - 3 in total - searching for that perfect "something" to finish off the gift shopping started the day before. After rifling through old wares, re-homing pre-loved bric-a-brac & measuring up possible new art acquisitions, there was only 1 thing for it: a late lunch at one of my favourite restaurants, Malaya Corner, followed by a refreshing coconut milk tea with "pearls" (ie: tapioca balls) from TeaTime Milk Tea a few doors down.

This amazing silk mini-dress from Few & Far, with its bright, painted rose print, whimsical lace-hemmed tiered skirt & floaty, super-short hemline is almost the antithesis of yesterday's grunge-inspired, scribbled rose & static line printed, midi-length trapeze. Rather than black sandals to "anchor" the look, white kitten-heeled sandals with stacked heels & embellished straps were chosen, matched with a white leather, hobo-style shoulder bag.

This time, more fanciful jewellery was chosen - a chunky silver hinged bangle & ring, as well as white leather strap bracelet with silver & pewter crystals from Swarovski's Spring/Summer 2014 range.
