The week of Halloween seemed like the ideal time to share all the pictures of the gorgeously gothic ensemble that I styled up to attend a performance of "Beetlejuice: the Musical" at QPAC before it's unfortunate early closure. As someone who adores the original film, I was a little skeptical that a musical could capture the same black comedy charm that Tim Burton seems to infuse all his films with but I was pleasantly mistaken... making it all the more disappointing that more theatregoers didn't have the opportunity to experience it! All I can say is... spooky sets, great performances, spectacular costumes & an all-round quirky vibe that really resonated. But I digress... 

For the occasion, I wore a stunning black rosette organza mini-length shift dress from Preview by Target with a silver & black floral silk/jacquard opera jacket from Taking Shape to ward off the chill in the air, a pair of black matte & patent leather loafers with tassels from Pitillos via Obsession Shoes for a modicum of height & a retro-inspired natural woven straw handbag with black beaded handle from Kitten D'Amour to carry all the essentials with monochrome silk print scarf from the Queensland Art Gallery Gift Shop for added flair. When it came to jewellery, I chose some favourite pieces in the form of stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles that some dear friends brought back from a trip overseas & a single vintage silver bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles (formerly Coolangatta, now Tweed Heads) that my brother gave me as a birthday gift to complete the look & add a touch of shine.

So excited to be sharing all the pictures from a safari trip that I took in my hometown at the historic city of Ipswich's Tulmur Place, over the recent school holidays! All of the animatronics on loan from the Queensland Museum's collection (housed at the Railway Workshops, by all accounts) really brought the event to life & it was really special to follow it up with a leisurely mother/daughter meal at the delightful Rafter & Rose & a browse around the many little boutiques at the "top of town." 

For the occasion, I wore a sweet little indigo denim trapeze-style mini dress from a label called Pink Diamond that I picked up a the funky Don't Tell Boutique at West End as a pinafore with a white broderie englaise blouse with puff sleeves & a floral embroidered collar from Dangerfield underneath, a pair of tan leather ankle strap sandals from Rilassare that I discovered at Obsession Shoes (they have quickly become my absolute favourites & the ideal fusion of comfort & style) & a vintage 1960s tooled leather handbag from the USA (that made it through Woodstock & has a hippie picture of a girl with long, flowing hair) that some dear friends gave me years ago to carry all the essentials. When it came to jewellery, I wore some long-time favourites - a stack of vintage Mexican silver bangles that some friends brought back as a souvenir years ago & a single silver vintage bangle from 20th Century Antiques & Collectibles that my younger brother gave me as a birthday gift.

Those who know me outside of the internet will already know of my lifelong fascination with the circus. I know, I know, it's definitely not something that people freely admit in this day & age but I am a firm believer that at least SOME old-time circuses took care of their animals in the same way that working dogs on farms are taken care of. But I digress... I've always loved everything about them from the atmosphere to the costumes to the props so I was absolutely elated to be given tickets to see a circus with fully holographic animal participation (no need to worry about their welfare) alongside all-human acts like clowns, jugglers & acrobats! 

For the occasion, I wore a sweet blue floral jacquard puff-sleeve mini smock dress from British label Dream Sister Jane, styled up with a funky coccoon-shaped indigo denim jacket from Bianca Spender to ward off the chill in the air, a pair of vintage black leather Mary Janes from Dr Martens, black 40 denier nylon tights from Razzamatazz (my go-to brand), a black velvet knot bag from the delightful Spanish store Swinging Chicks Shop that I discovered on Etsy & finally, a chunky gold bracelet from Mimco that I picked up from Lifeline for an absolute bargain. As a finishing touch - you'll see in the following photographs - I donned a handsome antique English black wool top hat (generously gifted by a dear friend for my birthday) that I added a black chiffon scarf with corsage (from the Zara sale section, if I'm honest) to for aplomb.
