Where DOES the time go?!?

Spent a wonderful Sunday celebrating the fact that Sweet Baby James has been part of our family for ONE WHOLE YEAR (#secondcousin #hoorayforauntyfran) with a "Hairy Maclary" Birthday Party & lots & lots of loud, brightly-coloured presents!

For such a special occasion, there was only one outfit option: this amazing black mesh & green-printed elaastane tea-length dress & cropped bolero combo that I picked up from Esteem's Boutique in Coolangatta while on my recent beach holiday at the Gold Coast. The fresh, sprightly shade of green in the patterned strips worked well for daytime when mixed with neutral accessories: a pair of bone, laser-cut leather lace-up sandals with stacked heels from the new season collection at Novo & a woven straw shoulder bag made in Madagascar that I picked up from a Fair Trade stall at The Strand Markets.

When it came to jewellery, matchy-matchy was the way to go: a funky, lightweight bamboo & suede watch (also from The Strand Markets) on my left wrist & a combination jade bangle & Wanfu jade beaded bracelet - brought back for my birthday from Louis' recent trip to China - on the right. Scroll down to check out the pieces in detail:

As a final, whimsical finishing touch, I pinned a resin Erstwilder brooch in the shape of a palm tree on the shoulder bag to draw the look together...

But I wasn't the only one looking super-styling on the day; my mother, Joanne was wonderful in a handblocked cotton maxi dress with tied yoke detail from Ankoa (click here to check out their online store), white cotton short-sleeved blazer from Jane Lamerton & bronze leather sandals with beading from Soft Soul. Like me, her jewellery was matchy-matchy: white pearl earrings from Joie de Vivre, white beaded bracelets with touches of bronze & a vintage, white plastic butterfly brooch from the 1960s. Keep scrolling to take a look:

Now that all of that styling business is out of the way, here's a sneak peek of how the day unfolded...
