"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind,
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind."

Finally posting all the pictures of the outfit I wore to attend the Queensland Ballet's performance of Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream as a birthday treat a few weeks ago. Avid readers of this blog will already know how much I ADORE Shakespeare's timeless tale of love, jealousy & mistaken identity & Liam Scarlett's imaginative choreography truly brought to life the enchanted woodlands & vivid characters, proving that where there is love, there is indeed a kind of magic...

For such a special occasion, I donned a divine white silk & layered tulle 1950s style fit-to-flare dress with cobalt blue embroidery & illusion neckline by Chi Chi London (a birthday gift from a dear friend), ethereal in nature & replete with balletomane vibes... just perfect for twirling, as evidenced below.

When it came to footwear, there was only one choice - this amazing pair of peep-toe lace-up suede heels with zippered backs from Betts for Her in a matching shade of cobalt blue. As a stylist, I absolutely LOVE it when items of clothing & accessories just seem to gravitate towards each other, coming together almost cosmically despite being garnered from wildly divergent sources at different times. Fashion "kismet," if you will.

The festive styling didn't end there, however, as I carried all my essentials (lipstick, coin purse, phone, tissues) in a vintage white Glomesh evening bag that once belonged to my Great Aunt Janet; given to her as a birthday present more than forty years ago. I'd like to think she'd be happy to know that I wore it when celebrating my own birthday all these years later...

Special jewellery pieces were then chosen to complete the look - a silver cuff with inlaid Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones & beads, handmade in Paris by Gian Paolo Maria & found at the Lannah Dunn store in Tattersall's Arcade, Brisbane City; as well as a matching ring from Swarovski & chunky Victorian silver bracelet with filigree oversized heart locket & teeny tiny key from Kellie's Antiques in the Brisbane Arcade. All these items were thoughtful birthday presents a couple of years ago & I am so blessed to have the chance to wear them!
