Finally posting all the pictures of what I wore to attend a matinee performance of Singin' in the Rain at QPAC during its sell-out Brisbane season! As a fan of the film, I was a little concerned about the widely-touted "hydro-effects" (worried it would take away from the tongue-in-cheek storyline & the songs) but I soon discovered that it only added to the wonder & whimsy of the impeccably-produced, superbly-acted production. To tell the truth, I was humming the title tune for days on end; just couldn't help it!

It can be tough to put an outfit together for a matinee, even for a stylist - it's not as "dressy" as a night-time show yet as a member of a "live" audience, you still want to be respectful of the hours of time & effort each performer has spent learning lines, blocking scenes, rehearsing songs... not mention those behind the scenes (so to speak) who have built sets, created mood lighting, studied music sheets until their eyes went blurry & played instruments until their fingers bled... but I digress. The answer to this conundrum? Smart Casual Wear. Commonly referred to as one of the most difficult "dress codes" to perfect, my formula is simple: GOOD DRESS + EDGY SHOES + UNEXPECTED ACCESSORIES.

Case in point: this beautiful, vibrant blue oriental floral printed jacquard dress from Anthea Crawford with its retro-style "wiggle" shape, flattering portrait neckline & below-the-knee hem, mixed with this pair of funky black patent & elastic wedges from Target Collection & matte leather bag with silver hardware from Wittner, beautiful tie dye silk scarf from the Salamanca Markets tied nonchalantly in a bow around the handle for some bohemian flair.

As previous alluded to, unexpected & eclectic accessories completed the look - a shell & silver beaded necklace on a black leather string from (the now defunct) Trinkit Hunter in Paddington & a chunky vintage silver cuff with four rows of shells that a dear friend brought all the way from India.
