Yep, the weather has FINALLY started to cool down in Queensland, meaning only one thing: a visit to one of my all-time favourite places on this planet, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary! I absolutely loved visiting as a child & I still adore it all these years later... & now I am able to share the joy with other family members too. It doesn't get much better! If you live in the area or are visiting the aptly-named Sunshine State anytime soon, click here to find out more information. Otherwise, scroll down to see what we did & who we happened to meet...
Apparently the huge statue kind are far more frightening than the actual real ones - you know, with actual claws - that live just inside the gates... (Ah, toddlers...)
Picturesque location by the meandering Brisbane River
Fruit Bats
His "Happy Place"
Climbing down...
(Spot the interloper running across the floor to his favourite tree!)
Lorikeet Feeding Time (earplugs possibly required)
The lorikeet landed on his head, took a few steps & flew away. This was the result.
Toddlers, am I right?! (I still managed to take a selfie though! #hoorayforauntyfran)
There's always time for some Australian animal colouring in!
Watching the koalas from the seating area...
(Note the singular tear still glistening after the lorikeet "incident")
What really happens behind the scenes when you get a group "Koala Cuddling Photo"

"Good Dog!"
Kangaroo Feeding Time... enjoyable for all ages!
Kangaroo Utopia
In the "Kangaroo Rest Area" where members of the public aren't allowed... I'd love to know what the poser on the right is thinking...

Making Friends
"Good Sheep"
Holding his packet of kangaroo food up high after one incredibly large buck (male kangaroo) tried to take his bag & ripped it! That's what happens when you feed them two or three pellets at a time... Guess who won the tussle, though?! Leave it to a toddler...
Posing by the river in a gorgeous floral satin fit-to-flare dress with grosgrain ribbon belt from Anthea Crawford, sleek black Puma joggers from TK Maxx, dove grey leather cross-body bag with flower-embellished white strap from Catherine by Catherine Malandrino, handwoven & beaded cuffs from a little market stall at the EKKA & woven sunhat from Before Sunset... a must in the Queensland sun. Not pictured: the silver cotton anorak from Suzanne Grae that I was wearing in earlier pictures. It always pays to be prepared as the weather in this part of the world is notoriously unpredictable.
Monitor Lizard
Crocodile
If you've got an itch...
I never tire of taking pictures of these unique & wonderful animals! They all have such defined little personalities & they more I visit, the clearer they becomes.
Lunching with our furry friends...

Hitting the Gift Shop...
Making a wish & giving a much needed donation to help with wildlife conservation...
(Note the small plastic crocodile on the right hand side of the picture - yep, that was his choice from ALL of the things on offer at the Gift Shop)
It's official: WE LOVE KOALAS!
Finishing the day with a swing...
