If you happened to read my last post, you'll already know how much I adore hybrid folk/protest music from the 1960s & 1970s, spending countless hours singing my little heart out beside the record player to so-called "golden oldies" including Creedence Clearwater Revival, Donovan, Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver & The Beatles. Imagine my delight, therefore, when I was invited to a performance of The Simon & Garfunkel Story at QPAC with some dear friends... after having sadly missed out on tickets to see the real-life counterparts in concert a few years ago!

The fascinating story of how two young friends from New York became the world's most successful music duo of all time, the heartfelt performance takes the audience on a trip through all the songs & stories that shaped them, their dramatic split & the solo careers gave them space to breathe, culminating in a stunning recreation of their 1981 reunion concert in Central Park, ably assisted by a large projector screen & full backing band. I know that some purists say that hearing a tribute band or artist is "nowhere near the same" as listening to the original & while that is true to an extent, in the case of a duo like Simon & Garfunkel, who have unfortunately split again & vowed never to perform together in the future or The Beatles, some of whose members have sadly passed away, it is sometimes the ONLY option for experiencing the band & artists you adore as they would once have been, something I (a person who often feels as though they were born in the wrong decade when it comes to fashion, music, movies & culture) am inordinately grateful for.

Speaking of other decades, this stunning, mix-printed lurex & jacquard maxi dress with its deep v-neckline, set-in sleeves & nipped-in waist is a little homemade number from the late 1960s/early 1970s that a dear friend's mother gifted to me. I've modernised it ever-so-slightly with a pair of black leather & elastic pointy-toed heels from Wittner, black suede roll-top clutch from Portmans & a pair of Indian wound brass cuffs from my local Tree of Life store for that bohemian touch.
