A few posts ago, I talked about the 10 days every year that the EKKA comes to Brisbane & the amazing mix of agriculture, arts, entertainment & education it brings. On that first Saturday, I shared the experience with my younger brother Louis but for the final day, it was all about a certain 6 year old boy & his love of train rides, fish & chips, showbags & dodgem cars...

Clearly a smart-casual ensemble was required & this Anthea Crawford dress - a funky mix of printed scuba & stretch lace - was the perfect beginning, particularly when pattern-mixed with the "hippie" patchwork cotton jacket from Tree of Life, shown below:

This print-mix works well for 3 reasons:
1. There are common colours inherent in both prints, creating cohesion.
2. The prints are different scales - the dress has a small-scale print underneath the lace while the jacket has large-scale print patches - keeping the look from becoming too busy.
3. The patterns make sense together as they both have a "boho" flavour.

Once again, the look is anchored by a pair of black matte, wedge-heeled Mary Janes from Hush Puppies, 40 denier Razzamatazz tights & a "touristy" leather cross-body bag by Milleni, ideal for carrying around all of the essential from a day spent keeping up with an over-excited small boy. Jewellery was all vintage & kept to a minimum - a plain silver bangle & chunky tribal cuff with semi-precious stones - both birthday gifts from dear friends.

Unpredictable Queensland weather meant a further "layering" piece was required in the form of a fringed "Omkara" printed rayon scarf, also from Tree of Life, adding yet another element to an already eclectic look.

Now that all the "styling" is taken care of, scroll down to see how the day unfolded, starting with a picture of Jeremy in his Star Wars backpack with Yoda hoodie...

And back at home waiting for us... gorgeous little Oliver, now 4 months old!
