It's hard to believe how quickly time flies! A dear family friend's daughter turned twelve this year & we spent last Saturday afternoon celebrating with caramel cake, candles & presents galore!

We'll get to the gift & the festivities soon enough, but first we'll talk fashion... I was a symphony in shades of black & blue: an amazing large-scale floral printed textured stretch pique dress from Anthea Crawford with asymmetrical neckline & just-below-the-knee hem, nylon zip-front anorak with hood from my local Millers store (perfect for folding up & tossing in your tote bag in case the weather turns nasty), black laser-cut neoprene jacket by Dion Lee for Target, shiny patent "rainboots" from Witchery, 40 denier Razzamatazz tights (the only brand I wear due to their "comfort top" design) & vinyl handbag with silver hardware by Basque at Myer. When it came to accessories, I kept it simple: a vintage silver & mother-of-pearl oval brooch from one of my antiquing adventures & a pair of oversized round-rimmed black & blue ombre resin sunglasses with "swirled" sides from a little boutique at Mount Tamborine called Windswept & Interesting

Joanne also decided to rock the same colour palette, donning a plaid vintage dress (handmade in the 1960s) that I picked up from a vintage fair a few years ago, black crepe "waiter" jacket from Sportsgirl, 40 denier Razzamatazz tights & a pair of leather brogues with ribbon laces from Ziera.

Scroll down to see what we gave the birthday girl & how the afternoon unfolded...
