So excited to be sharing all of the pictures from an afternoon spent celebrating non-spooky Halloween with my cousin & her two rambunctious munchkins with a Light Party at a local church. For those who may not know, a Light Party is a three hour extravaganza of carnival games, mini gold, jumping castles, laser tag, a glow room (activities you can do in the dark with glow sticks around your neck & those glow-in-the-dark stars all over the walls), a disco, craft activities, hot dogs & soft drinks, the opportunity to have your picture taken with a variety of characters from television & movies (in this case Bluey & Bingo, Buzz Lightyear & Woody & a host of Marvel Comic heroes) & "family friendly" magic show that basically combats the negative stereotypes about Halloween & negates the need to dress up as ghosts or goblins or witches & go Trick or Treating at night. Personally, I don't have a problem with Halloween at all & look at it as merely a bit of fun for those who wish to celebrate or even consider it to be the holiest day of the pagan calendar when they would light candles to remember the dead but as Christian myself, I was happy enough to go along as a guest & check it out with the family.

Non-spooky costumes were suggested for all participants (they weren't mandatory & some parents/caregivers didn't dress up, which is fine as it was a pretty darn hot day in South East Queensland in actual fact) so I dove into my extensive wardrobe & pulled out his gorgeous black & silver star glitter mesh midi dress with black satin lining & elasticated waistline from American label Modcloth that I wore a few years ago to a performance of "The Little Prince" with friends. Deciding to be a "celestial" girl, I added a pair of comfortable yet stylish black vegan leather dual buckle heels from Kitten D'Amour, carried a navy velvet bag with a silver crescent "Man in the Moon" & stars on it from Lulu Hun via That Shop after attaching a black & grey striped grosgrain strap from Nautica to create a crossbody style (ideal for keeping hands free for child wrangling, painting, eating & candy-packet holding) & donned an oversized silver glitter bow headpiece from David Jones (bought a few Christmases ago) that my Mum helpfully sewed some iron-on star patches to that I picked up from my local Lincraft store in black, navy & silver glitter. All that remained was to add a sparkly black & silver Indian bangle to draw the whole look together & I was good to go. All that remained was to grab my compatriots - dressed as a member of the "Little House on the Prairie" cast, Spiderman & Batman, respectively - & have a good time!

Scroll down to see how it all unfolded...
