Heading out on a balmy Autumn day in the River City for a spot of shopping with friends before heading home to celebrate my father's birthday with the whole time-honoured cake-&-candles bit wearing a funky Charlie Brown dress with sweet bow detail at the back. The tight, yellow jersey underlay gives the floaty trapeze more shape while the bright print adds that "extra special" touch for such a happy day.

Gold embellished sandals - with a stacked kitten heels - were chosen for some daytime sparkle, mixed with a cute bone, pink, purple & puce colour-blocked handbag (with gold hardware) that I picked up from a little Chinese store at the Sunnypark Shopping Centre after Yum Cha a few weekends ago. To add some extra pizzazz, I indulged in a spot of pattern-mixing, tying a gorgeous bird & flower printed scarf from Millers around one of the handles & fashioning it into a big bow. Many of the same colours exist in both prints, so the overall look is both cohesive & pleasing to the eye.

As the day was a celebration, I decided to "layer" gorgeous jewellery pieces on one arm to make a statement - a vintage, rose gold aluminum cuff with embedded multi-coloured crystals, gold hinged bangle with handpainted roses & oversized gold cocktail ring with geometric ball, certain sections wrapped with either white or peach thread.

Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) is one of my father's favourite singers & my brother, his girlfriend & I actually attended his first Australian concert in 30-something-years a while ago... & LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! The man has clearly "still got it," as they say, nailing the perfect mix of greatest hits & new songs, so it only seemed appropriate to play one of his records...

"...I still want you by my side, just to help me dry the tears that I've cried, 'cause I'm sure gonna give you a try & if you want, I'll try to love again..."

The First Cut is the Deepest - Cat Stevens, now Yusuf Islam (1967)

After enjoying a delicious pavlova on the weekend, it was birthday cake time & this one was mum-made too - a classic vanilla butter cake with passionfruit icing. DELICIOUS... particularly when washed down with a glass of refreshing Bundaberg Passionfruit

Well, all that's left to say is:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Love You Always xxx

A little trip down Memory Lane... notice that my hairstyle hasn't changed...
