Finally sharing all the pictures of the gorgeous ensemble that I styled up to attend a socially-distanced Derby Day event in Brisbane. Traditionally, the dress code is strictly black & white & formal only but in recent years, this has been extended to accept certain shades of cream & grey & become more smart casual in nature, I guess in keeping with the fashions trends of the moment. For the occasion, I paid homage to my namesake with a stunning black & pearl-hued frangipani embroidered & sequinned mesh A-line dress with tulle underlay from celebrated Australian designer Anthea Crawford, a pair of black suede pointy-toed mules with stiletto heels & shiny patent straps from Nine West & a boxy, black vinyl & suede handbag with oversized silver circle handles from French Connection to carry all the essentials. When it came to jewellery, I wore some of my favourite pieces - a smooth silver cuff from Wallace Bishop, engraved with one of my all-time favourite mantras "All You Need is Love" on the inside & a darling art deco inspired pearl bracelet with silver & onyx clasp & matching silver & onyx square-shaped ring from the delightful Precious Stones Jewellers in the Myer Centre, Brisbane, the latter two items thoughtful & exquisite 2020 birthday gifts from my parents. To complete the look, the final flourish was added in the form of a large, sculptural headpiece from my local Target store (yes, really...) made from black mesh & satin... I purchased it nearly seven years ago now & it still manages to turn heads & garner compliments, which just shows that it's not where you make a purchase or even how much it costs, it's how you wear it & whether it suits you & your personality.
