Avid readers of this blog will already know that I'm obsessed with the gothic works of the Bronte sisters, particularly Wuthering Heights (you know, desolate moors, ghosts, divine retribution & all that) but many don't realise that I am also fond of the "lighter," mannerly works of Jane Austen which gently needle the social conventions of the Regency era & discuss the role of women in a patriarchal society. After what I have deemed a "bad experience" studying Sense & Sensibility in high school, I am partial to the popular Pride & Prejudice & the most witty of Austen's offerings, Emma. It would follow, therefore, that I was particularly excited to see Autumn de Wilde's interpretation with Anya Taylor-Joy (of The Miniaturist fame) playing the titular heroine, assisted by Johnny Flynn (Vanity Fair), Mia Goth, Miranda Hart & the inimitable Bill Nighy, whose roles are too numerous to list here.

My mother & I decided to make a mother/daughter experience of it, dressing up in some of our favourite cotton printed dresses from Aussie label Anthea Crawford & heading to the character-filled Elizabeth Picture Theatre in Brisbane City with its Instagram-worthy staircase, stained glass, mirrored doors & old movie memorabilia... before analysing the film (which we loved, by the way) over a delicious lunch at Stanton Cafe & Bar at Queens Plaza.

As previously mentioned, I donned a gorgeous floral cotton-sateen shift dress from Anthea Crawford that I styled up with a pair of black leather heels with elastic ankle straps from Jo Mercer & carried a vibrant yellow textured vinyl handbag with "girly" bow detail & gold hardware from retro-inspired label Review for a "pop" of colour. When it came to jewellery, I wore a stack of burnished gold & onyx bangles with charms from American boho-luxe brand Alex & Ani on one arm & a pair of silver beaded bracelets with gold accents & a black bow from Taking Shape (gifted last Christmas) on the other.
