Had the pleasure of attending Rolling Thunder Vietnam: Songs that Defined a Generation at QPAC with a good friend on Thursday. Melding the personal stories of young soldiers with classic rock songs of the era, this "theatrical concert" deals with issues of conscription, combat, protest & homecoming from the world's first televised War. An epic journey of courage, love, loss & faith, the show was full of historical footage, stunning visuals & moving portrayals of human relationships in a time of momentous change.

For someone who loves late 1960s/early 1970s music as much as I do, the classics kept coming - Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf, Run Through the Jungle & Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival, All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix, People Get Ready by The Impressions & Killing Me Softly with His Song by Roberta Flack, to name but a few...

As usual, I had wanted to dress to a theme but unfortunately, cold & rainy weather scuttled my original plans. Plan B, however, was still a nod to the era: a 70s style lurex tiered dress mixed with a bohemian-style botanical embroidered & fringed kimono & chunky gold jewellery - including the quintessential "snake chain" necklace, this one with modern tie-up black ribbon. See below for close-up outfit shots.

The timing of the show really couldn't be better with the 45th Anniversary of Woodstock just around the corner. In fact, stay tuned to this blog for a post celebrating all things peace, love & music... To capture this spirit of innocence & rebellion, I also took a few shots with the new flower crown headpiece I received as a "Thank You" from some dear friends of mine, in lieu of a bunch of flowers. They know me so well! Although I love real blooms (despite the chronic hay-fever) the silk ones are ideal as I get to keep them forever!

Abracadabra! Raced home for a quick change & I was ready for late night shopping in suburbia with another friend... in another lurex dress, this time in silver. Drizzle be damned, I had shopping to do!

I decided to tone down the "sparkly" nature of the dress by pairing it with a lightweight trench coat with burnished silver buttons, mixing metals with a chrome ball necklace & studded bronze, burnished silver & chrome studded bangle. A night out was the perfect opportunity to bust out my new Breakfast at Tiffany's clutch bag, replete with Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly wearing THAT fabled dress & brandishing her black cigarette holder... Bad for your health, I know, but SUCH a classic movie image!
