Relished a sunny Sunday at the EKKA with Belinda, Arthur & Jeremy. After travelling by train from Central Station - much to Jeremy's delight (see top picture) - we took in the Wrapped in Natural Fibres fashion parade, watched the stunt diver take the plunge, marveled over a mini model of Brisbane City & laughed at the eclectic scenery all around us - large, brightly painted piggy banks & tongue-in-cheek signs at every turn...

We sampled some less-than-delicious fare at various food stalls - aside from the piping hot Churro that sated my rumbling stomach & the chocolate-covered marshmallows that Jeremy became COVERED in - before scarfing down a yummy Prince Charles Hospital Foundation strawberry sundae, an EKKA stalwart since 1989.

Small boy in tow, we hit up the money-pit that is Sideshow Alley, where he enjoyed multiple rides on the Dodgem Cars with Papa before taking to the "friendly skies" with Aunty Fran on the Red Baron Ride... I HAD decided to use it as an opportunity to face my fear of flying but, frankly, 7 feet off the ground was MORE than enough for me... But not enough for the five year old thrill-seeker among us who insisted on riding the Pirate's Revenge with Mummy. See bottom picture for the hilarious result... someone's screaming & it's NOT Jeremy!

As the winter sun began to set & the air began to cool, it was time to head home - but not before lining up for a Batman Showbag from the Pavilion. See the result below:

Purchases in hand, we made our way to the train station, tired but happy.

The vibrant floral Anthea Crawford jersey dress was an inspired choice - the all-over print hid any stains from little chocolatey fingers, the stretch fabric allowed me to move freely & smush myself into the teeny tiny aeroplane cockpit & the cap sleeves afforded me some degree of sun protection.

Any Queenslander knows that tote bags in winter are KEY as the middle-of-the-day sunshine invariably leads to shucking the heavy jackets that were imperative mere hours earlier. The red Oxfam tote is roomy enough to carry discarded winter woolies, a hat, water bottle & some small snacks yet has straps short enough to mean it fits snugly underneath my arm, an added safety precaution for crowded areas. Likewise the cross-body bag - my hands are free but my valuables are still close to me, securely contained within reinforced zippered compartments.

So, if you were deciding whether to go to the Royal Queensland Show this year - or indeed what to WEAR for a day of EKKA fun - but were wondering if it was worth it, the answer is a resounding YES! You've just gotta experience EKKA 2014 for yourself!
