Gardening Guru

Well, you've heard me mention it enough on the blog already & if you follow me on Instagram, you would have already seen plenty of pictures but I'm so excited to share the progress of our little backyard oasis with all you lovely readers! Once upon a time, the area had contained an above-ground swimming pool but that was long gone & grass just didn't seem to want to grow, leaving it a messy patch of ground surrounded by a white wrought iron pool fence on some sides & white lattice on others, overlooked by a mighty green hedge...

Undaunted, we set up the wrought-iron swing that had been a Christmas present, purchased some raised garden beds from our local Bunnings Warehouse (some assembly required) & decided on the appropriate configuration. With that all sorted, we brought in soil & purchased the fruits & vegetables we hoped to grow including beans, broccolini, red tomatoes, yellow tomatoes, capsicum, brussel sprouts, orange carrots, purple carrots, zucchini, lemons, oranges & blueberries. With that completed, we recycled/upcycled some old pots that had languished in the back shed for years & filled them with flowers & shrubs that entice bees & small birds to the garden... also purchasing a few flowers to plant in & around some of the raised beds for colour including violas, pansies & gerberas.

It was then that I may have really "gone to town" (as they say) on the decorating, filling the area with all manner of garden ornaments from local Garden Centres including wrought iron birds, insects, frogs & flowers & concrete representations of famous Greco-Roman goddesses... & lastly adding an inexpensive table & chairs (for two) perfect for hosting morning or afternoon teas.

Well, keep scrolling down to see how it all unfolded & take a peek at what I wore through each respective step of the process. Moreover, stay tuned (keep checking the blog) for updates & pictures on the progress of the garden & the verdict on the taste of the fruits & vegetables grown within!
