Avid readers of my blog will already know of my deep & abiding love for colour (the brighter the better) & print (eclectic & obscure are my watchwords) however this season, I have somewhat inadvertently reignited my love of moody, darker hues like mauve, burgundy, slate & black as well as gothic details like higher necklines, lace overlay, touches of velvet & bows. This outfit - worn to a recent performance of Verdi's opera, Otello with someone dear - is everything that my Shakespearean-tragedy-loving heart desires: a gorgeous black satin-backed crepe dress, cut above the knee, with a high mesh neckline & absolutely stunning guipure lace caped bodice overlay from Anthea Crawford (complete with a hint of lacy black bra underneath for a little something alluring), retro-style cream patent leather & black velvet t-bar heels replete with teeny tiny bows & buttons from Kitten D'Amour, boxy black suede handbag with oversized silver handles from French Connection to carry all the essentials & finally, a simple silver hinged bangle from Wallace Bishop for a modicum of shine.

Scroll down to see the outfit in more sundrenched detail...
