Enjoyed a complimentary Fashions on the Field: Spring Racing Carnival Fashion Parade at my local TS (Taking Shape) store last night. For the occasion, I decided to dress to the TS aesthetic; a myriad of textured layers that build up to create a cohesive yet eclectic ensemble.

And there really is something to it... Using just 3 pieces - a black elastane camisole with a tiered floral lace hem, a blue tie dye print silk smock & a circular floral lace midriff top - NONE of which I would have bought envisioning wearing them together, I managed to create something full of movement, depth & visual interest. Indeed, I even did my usual stylist trick of creating a pick up on the side of the dress (with a rubber band!) to funk it up & provide even MORE volume... It was a night-time occasion, after all...

The busyness of the outfit meant that only minimal accessories were required - in this case a pair of black patent t-bar platform sandals & black patent handbag to anchor the look, as well as a thick silver hinged bangle to provide shine without taking attention away from the layers.

Scroll down to see close-ups of the outfit's different patterns & textures:

And keep scrolling down for gratuitous "dancing" shots, so you can get an idea of the way the ensemble floats & swishes when walking:
